I never understood why in this site ps3 exclusive sequels are huge console movers, 360 sequels "do nothing" despite the fact that 360 hardware often gets more significant boosts weekly on the releases. 

Someone posted that the kinect is just a fad. It has sold to 1/5 of the xbox 360's userbase in one holiday season, with 2 notable titles, neither of which are anything extrordinary, at a price that when first reaveled caused most of the community to instantly write off as a failure that will sell next to nothing. For 2011 it has sold better than any hd game, including a few "huge" ps3 exclusives. Yes quite the failure fad.

In 4 months the ps3 has sold 3.2mil and is leading the 360 by 500k. Last year by 4/17/10 the ps3 had sold 3.7mil and was leading the xbox 360 by 1.2mil and the 360 nearly caught up for the year. The holidays of course might not pan out the same way, but strictly comparing to last year, the ps3 is having a bad year so far in 2011, while the 360 is having a better year than last year. 

But does it really matter to anyone if the PS3 is down YOY if its still outselling the competition and is selling at more profit than the year before?  I doubt it.  And a fad can sell extremely well before it dies out.  To not be just a fad, Kinect will have to pull off a Wii and sell extremely well for years after its release, not just for one holiday.  Of course, I won't write off Kinect as a fad personally until I see this holiday's sales.  Though, I do have a feeling that Kinect is going to come up against some stiff competition for the IT thing to buy for the holiday.

EMEAA & Japan = 96.2

America = 91.3

With VGchartz being aproximate (around 10%)  it is actually a statisticall tie.  So basically, if Xbox continues to dominate in America, it will make it really hard for the ps3 to surpass it.  Not impossible, just hard.  

Right now, xbox isn't doing that well in EMEAA and Japan and PS3 isn't doing well in America.  With both markets being about equal... you see where I'm going?  Right now it is pretty balanced out.  Something drastic needs to happen to tip the scales, and not a price drop.  Those only give a temporary boost.  By drastic I mean like next gen system being released.  Kind of like the project cafe and obviously any next gen consoles from sony or MS.  

The thing is that it isn't just a matter of winning or losing a territory.  It is how much the gap is.  While the xbox might be 'dominating' in America, the PS3 is absolutely crushing it in Japan.  So even though Japan is a much smaller market, the gap between the two is about equal.  The 360 was about 326k ahead in the US in the first three months according to NPD.  In Japan, the PS3 was ahead by 299k according to Media Create.  Thus, even though the US market is more than double that of Japan, the gap was only 9% higher for the 360.

The joker in the mix is the next Nintendo console, and whatever it does.

How many of the console sales of the 360 are the arcade units vs the elite?  The PS3 and 360 are the same price, and the 360 outsells the PS3 in America, while in Europe, the reverse is true.  There is the arcade unit though.  But, the prior post that needs to be noted argues that somehow the price cut of the PS3 will NOT be matched by Microsoft. 

Want to go into how the arcade unit counts for the bulk of the 360 sales and also follow up that somehow Microsoft WILL keep the price points the same if Sony dropped theirs, or somehow, that it is just a magical $50 to $100 cut in the PS3 price IRREGARDLESS of what Microsoft does that will SOMEONE mean that the PS3 will somehow end up with Sony beating Microsoft in the Americas month after month?  It isn't happening now, and there is little basis for believing that just a simple price cut alone is going to change things.
