Outside of a curriculum based need, and before children reach a certain age, race should not be discussed in any significant way.

In case you don't understand, this is as much to prevent a second grade teacher from spending a little time each day convincing their students that homosexuality is an immoral choice and gay marriage is wrong as it is to teach a more tollerant message.

Come on, you'd have to be terribly naive to think that this was done to protect gays.

This case in particular probably wasn't, but (in general) a policy preventing issues being discussed unless there is a significant need within the curriculum and it is at a age appropriate level benefits everyone.

In general, but in this particular case I think the point is to decrease visibility of homosexuality, and make gayness seem even more deviant, taboo etc.

Which would be an entirely pointless effort in this day and age, and not worthy of any real concern ...

I disagree. Especially considering it's a very conservative state where people probably teach tehir kids that the media is evil, and use words like "LA-LA Land" to describe Hollywood. It's not good when homosexuals seem like nothing more then some characters you see on TV.

Don't you people think that there's a "conspiracy" in schools to turn kids gay, by simply mentioning it?
