Forums - Sony - Do you think Sony regrets going after George Hotz now?

So it's a case of being guilty before being proved innocent, and not the other way round?

Whether it was immoral or not that's a whole different can of worms to being legal and illegal. I'm absolutely fine with people having an opinion that the removal of os was immoral it's just the legality side of your opinion thats wrong. I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other, you have one point of view and I have another which is fine.

I'm not some sony fanatic who will defend them no matter what, but I really do believe these last few months have given some people the ammo they have  been craving for to just basically vent out all the anger/dissapointment they have towards sony, there used to be a poster I think he was called gebx who seemed to be on some personal mission to create as many negative threads about sony as he could find on the internet, but at least the majority of the time they was different articles and some where quite entertaining, these days its the same few posters, posting the same shit over and over, you think the op seriously wanted to discuss the points he made? or just simply throw food in a cage and watch the animals go wild?

Anyway I respect your opinion just don't agree with a little part of it.

I woud say they would have to be stupid not to regret it.

They spent over a million dollars to get him to sign something saying he would never do it again(Which, he probably wasn't going to anyway), while getting that entire community pissed at them and bringing down the PSN and other online stuff.

Also, while showing that if you do hack a sony product, the worst case scenario is you become famous and get off with a warning.

If I'm a hacker i'm intentionally targeting Sony now, so they can make a big deal about it and i'm easier to hire.  Since this kind of stuff is basically job resume matieral in the hacking world.

This is why more experenced software companies smartly just ignore hackers.

When was the last time Microsoft sued a hacker?

Geohot isn't in court, and the FBI aren't after anonymous. Stop believing everything you read on the internet

If you feel what Sony did was illegal, then you should take them to court

Again, reading comprehension lets people down.

There's no "feeling" that what Sony did was illegal. It was illegal.

I also said that Sony has a lot of money and lobbying power, which means that taking them to court is likely to result in failure.

I can't afford to take Sony to court (nor would I have a case, since I bought a slim PS3), but I can buy an Xbox and stop buying Sony's products. So can everyone else. Sony seems to forget this.

If it was so "Illegal" then why wasn't anything done about it? hmm... I'm pretty sure if Sony were breaking the law the court would have something to say..

I play PC and PS3. The best of both worlds.

If that's true, it's a really huge security hole. Not checking  if the credit card numbers are real is asinine. I can't believe this is true.

Is that rebug an example of the homebrew that people were denied?

So many rumours flying about atm, this fill your boots rebug, possibility of a security breach with psn user's credit card details, anonymous hacking the servers, whats next the CIA?

It would be an example of the stupidity of the PSN system administrators. Who doesn't check if a credit card's data is real or not?
