Forums - Sony - Do you think Sony regrets going after George Hotz now?

To me it just seems like a major blunder that has gained them nothing.  They now have a system that is under constant attack and it's very likely that anything they might have gained by getting George Hotz to not try to hack future Sony products will be lost by painting themselves as a major target for everyone else.  What's worse is that they could have easily gained a lot by actually hiring the guy (like SCEE may be trying to do with other hackers) instead of turning this all into a media circus and debate about consumer's rights,

In my opinion this is just another sign that some major house cleaning needs to be done at SCEA before they are able to cause even more damage.  They got off lucky this time as it could  very well have happened in the crucial November and December shopping months and cost Sony a lot more (imagine how this would have affected the biggest game launch of the year...).  For a part of the company that seems to like to talk a lot of smack (without giving out their American sales numbers mind you) it should be the smack being brought down on them.

made me chuckle.

I'm unsure

I agree with the standpoint but not the method.

However we have seen time and time again in the western world that protesting does nothing and direct action gets results.

If this works and it causes companies like Sony to review the TC's they seem to place on every piece of tech nowadays then it will be a price worth paying.

Somehow I think this is more likely to be the opening salvo in the first ever digital war.

regret? why?

PSN will be back up in a few in while GEO is forever banned from touching sony products.

You make it sound easy. If somebody knows how to hide on the internet they're very very difficult to track down, Sony probably won't be able to find the hackers. It's the advantage of them being anonymous.
