Not sure whether I care. Online isn't a big part of my gaming life. If buying games online required "PSN gold" I just wouldn't buy any PSN games.

Anything else I use PSN for I can get via other means that don't require a paid subscription.

I'm not sure what your comparison is stemming from. You don't have to have XBL Gold to buy anything off the marketplace or XBLA.

What's this got to do with XBL? I'm talking about paid PSN subs, who knows what they might or might not charge for. I'm covering multiple possibilities.

I'm not really missing PSN at all. Though the outage would choose to strike just as I start getting back into Demon's Souls, so the atmosphere isn't quite as good in offline mode.

Lol NO!. If they want to be sued by 50 million consumers, they will never EVER go free, and doing so will cost far more than leaving it as an free.

anyways: global Server network is off: equal zero power consumption = less costs.

the power required to run an server farm is HUGE!. Thats why they are in cold places, it costs less due to nature providing the free airconditioning.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

The fact that your example uses the term "PSN Gold" implies that there's a parallel with Xbox Live.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

O they do but Microsoft is a different beast they over charge for everything like OS and other programs.

Ever heard of Sony Vegas Pro? It cost about $500. Windows is priced at a mere fraction of that.

Their electronics aren't exactly cheap either.

PSN Plus is clearly motivated by Xbox Live. Its just a stepping stone to eventually begin charging for online play.

Sony hasn't proven to be any less greedy. But they are arguably more arrogant.

Sony vegas Pro is an advanced video editing software. Its the same as the adobe after effects software (not really the same but similar) and programs like those can run up to 1000$. Vegas is actually on the cheaper side....This is coming from an avid anime music video editor =p

I remember in the past they used to market online gaming being a free service. But they don't anymore so they are definitely planning to charge in the future.

However, it won't happen this gen. They would probably get sued as they have marketed it for free onine gaming in the past.

I never really remember them advertising free online in the first place.  If you could point out when exactly they made it a strategy to advertise this, it would be greatly appreciated if you could show me.

I don't think any of the Kevin Butler ads even mention free online, nor does the "It Only Does Everything" thing at the end mention free online.

They already have a paid service, plus members will get some kind of "oops we are sorry for the f*ck up, here's your reward for being patient enough even if you weren't" item on the PSN.

True, unfortunately for those without playstation plus I doubt sony will offer something for free to everyone due to the fact that there are several individuals with multiple accounts, so offering something for free for plus members makes more sense

I think your reasoning is a little off here though.  If they decide to give everybody a $5 psn game for example, what difference does it make if somebody has 5 accounts.  Downloading the same game 5 times doesn't do them any good.
