These are all usless. I NEVER look at my controller while playing.

I've thought of another one. As it's a touch screen you could assign dozens of hotkeys to it like you can with a keyboard for PC. It would be great for selecting squads on RTS games or items on WRPGs etc.
It would also be good for a slider bar type of control.

You aren't playing splitscreen anymore, if all the action takes place on the individual screen of each controller instead of the TV. You should have thought this through before you posted. Anyway, besides the ability to hide the choices you make in competitive multiplayer games, there are also benefits to co-operative multiplayer titles. Like putting menus for equipment in Action RPGs on the controller screens, so that the game doesn't have to be paused for all players or parts of the TV screen get blocked whenever someone makes some adjustments to his character. Then again, I think Nintendo's plan is something different than just putting a (touch)screen on a traditional controller. The current mockups scream cramming and that's not a good thing. It doesn't look practical at all, it actually looks quite idiotic. |
Well that's what I said.
Having your own screen prevents fouls from looking at it.

Yeah, but what is the TV screen good for in your example? Showing the current standings at all times? Or something else? In the end I don't really see this working, because the point of playing multiplayer on a home console is to play on a big screen, not a tiny 6" screen. |
It's all part of Nintendo's plan to get rid of TVs.
A console that doesn't require a TV? That got to reach en even bigger crowd.
Nintendo's way.
Imagine the TV is 3DS's upper screen.
Controller screen is 3DS's lower screen.
Any idea that fits 3DS, pretty much fits this controller. Nothing to think too much about.
Next Nintendo consul technologies will all be aimed at.
Making 1st person 3D world navigation effortless and easy.
They want to make 3D worlds so easy Casuals will buy into the Hard core.
That screen on the controller. Helps you look around in a 3D world so you can look down effortlessly to see where you have to jump. (use it to look in any direction) In other word, look into the screen while looking Down. to see your feet and hands. Look down left to spot where you have to jump to next. etc... And your TV is your Cross hair for movment direction.
Head tracking. Makes it easy to track distances. so its not so hard to judge
Basically there going to use tecknology to make navigation easy
If they succeed they may hit the jackpot. Only time will tell.

That's because there is no screen on the current controllers, you donkey. The "You don't miss it if you never had it" saying applies here. |
Donkey? wow.
The point i was making is that looking down at my controler takes away from the game. There is now way to play games competevly if you are looking down at the controller for things that could simply be on the regular screen.

In case there is a power outtage you can use the light of the screen to find the flashlight...
Other then that, hmm nope, can only look at one screen at a time. Is it confirmed that it will have an actual screen? Maybe it's just a trackpad?
