Prevents people (idiots) from looking (spying, cheating) in your screen when you play in competitive split screen.

You aren't playing splitscreen anymore, if all the action takes place on the individual screen of each controller instead of the TV. You should have thought this through before you posted.

Anyway, besides the ability to hide the choices you make in competitive multiplayer games, there are also benefits to co-operative multiplayer titles. Like putting menus for equipment in Action RPGs on the controller screens, so that the game doesn't have to be paused for all players or parts of the TV screen get blocked whenever someone makes some adjustments to his character.

Then again, I think Nintendo's plan is something different than just putting a (touch)screen on a traditional controller. The current mockups scream cramming and that's not a good thing. It doesn't look practical at all, it actually looks quite idiotic.

Well that's what I said.

Having your own screen prevents fouls from looking at it.
