No offence to anyone, but if Demon's Souls is what you consider hard, you haven't played a hard game in your life, EVER. That game is ALL predictable patterns, from beginning to finish. The only way it can be remotely hard is if you picked a Barbarian as your first character, because he starts with no armor whatsoever and a weak wooden shield. Otherwise, you're just seriously overreaching.

Do you want truly hard? Put Contra 4 or SuperSFIV on their highest difficulties ;)

Ah, wait! Demon's Souls DOES have one tough enemy. Try your luck against a swamp bird or whatever it's called. Patterns or no patterns, if you get two of them on you, your only way out is warping back to the nexus.

so only 2 games are harder?

ok....so our point still stands, its a damn hard game.

Re-read, then get back to me.

ok i re-read

it says

"Do you want truly hard? Put Contra 4 or SuperSFIV on their highest difficulties ;)"

so yes...thats 2 games....and their not even rpg's so i dont know why you didnt mention an rpg if you thought there was one harder (not hard because its controls sucks or something like that)

Point: not only 2 games are harder. I never said only 2, I only gave you examples.

@Teo: I'm a 1-year newbie :P

re-read your own comment then come back to me when you find the word 'example' in it.

no nevermind, just tell us a harder rpg than demons souls which isnt hard because of technical flaws or cheap AI.

VGChartz' review was the one who made me buy this game.

This'll make Tor's day ;)

you were so right.  Y'know the sad thing though?  Last E3 Atlus was all nice to our guys because of how quickly we reviewed Demon's Souls for them and how much they liked the review, but I wasn't the one that got a meeting with Atlus so they were all nice to Kitchen and Loadedstatement.  Buncha BS if you ask me.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you as good as it did f orme thanks to you.

When I played Demon Souls, I wouldn't say it was hard perse. More along the lines of cheap. I had very little trouble with the handful of bosses I took down...

If you died at any point in Demon's Souls, it was far from cheap. The player was always at fault.

And people should be glad. The NA version was much easier than the Japanese or Asian version.

How so?

You started out max white character tendency which gives you more souls per kill and the enemies have lower health. It's mainly a large factor in the beginning as you can just mow through everything without much trouble.

afaik white tendency gives you less exp (weaker enemies -> less exp, the game is consistent like that) and less item drops, but well, that's world tendency from my memory

white character tendency can get you the friend's ring and affects some weapons damage like demonbrandt or northern regalia and the whiter your character tendency the more hp you have in soul form

Well, I'm not sure on all the details. I do know that the souls from the first enemies gave more souls while also having less health. Black character tendency does make the enemies harder and increase drop rate for sure.

@DrGrass: No. I've given DS a mere 122 hours of gameplay, too. It's just my opinion - the patterns in the game are so simple that I want to cry when I read these OMG HARDZ posts.

I think we need to have a more clear definition of 'hard'. Because if many of those 120 hours were spent carefully avoiding death by caution and tact in order to avoid the excruciating punishment of death then 'hard' might be the wrong word yes.

Still, I think we should lable the above as 'hard'.

White World Tendency= Weaker enemies & increased attack in soul form

Black World Tendency=Stronger enemies, more souls gained, increased drop rate & lower HP in soul form

White Character Tendency=Increased attack in soul form & Friend's Ring from Monumental (pure white only)

Black Character Tendency=lower HP in soul form, increased attack for black phantoms & Foe's Ring from Mephistopheles (pure black only)

Pure white character tendency only increases attack in soul form, nothing else.

can someone pleaze head on over to the official DS thread and answer my query. Otherwise you guys are not hardcorez DS players :P
