As the 3DS launched there have been some threads/news come out that essentially claimed it wasn't as good as was expected. I thought it would be good to put out a thread that compares 3DS's launch to its most recent counterparts.

Here is a list of various consoles first 30 days summed up. A few didn't launch worldwide at same time and I simply totaled each respective areas (NA, JP, Others) first 30ish days.

3DS    2.1m (Two more weeks left for 30 days outside of Japan; only through april 9)
DS    3.5m
PSP    2.5m

X360    1.2m
PS3    2m
Wii    2.9m

Even though 3DS hasn't been out a full 30 days in NA/Others yet, it's still right in line with everyone else and will likely sell about what the PSP did when those couple weeks are added.

I'll update this thread for the first 60days when that time hits, but I think this demonstrates that the 3DS is perfectly in-line when considering its price and selection of games at launch.

All totals are from VGC of course.

It's not much about the launch. It's more about the legs it's showing I think.

I personally just think it needs a couple of blockbuster games so I'm not worried.

Maybe a litter lower than the others, but with a non-holiday launch, that is to be expected, so I think it is doing fine

its good but its not according to what people expected

and being in line with everything isn't what the expectations were after DS brand name

its still been a great success,it should get up when the big games kick in and the holidays come

It's about living up to the crazy amount of hype and expectations some fans had....

in reality it's doing just fine..way too early to doom and gloom or anything

3ds sold 2mil in march. pretty good considering there is no killer apps too sell the hardware.

i'm not sure there is anyone that was honestly proclaiming doom.  but real question is ... are you satisfied with the 3DS trending lower than the psp and getting close to half the the DS?

after the "NGP - DOA" thread among others -- the 3DS is very much underperforming to what all the nintendo fans on this site had been telling me it would for months.  so just remember, when i poke fun at the 3DS sales i'm really just stealth trolling the nintendo fans on this site. xD

Launch tells you suprisingly little about how a console is going to do.

I think it's in good hands. Should really kick up during holidays and next year as more nintendo titles release.
