As opposed to huge governments that want to take as much money as they can so they dont have to work? At least with corporations I have some sort of choice that can lead to a better situation instead of the money pit known as the government.

The Governemnt (at least in theory) works for the people. Corporations work for themselves, and have their own interests at heart. You can directly affect Government through voting. There's nothign you can do regarding Corporations. You may think you have choice, but it's very easy for Corporations to make a deal amongst themselves to keep prices high, and quality low, as health care is a necessity. And I don't undertsand this "take as much money as they can so they don't have to work" thing.

As is often said you can vote with your money. But that is besides the point, its not like there are only two choices. We can get rid of corporations also. I dont like them any more than governemnt. But even with corporations it is often in their best interest to serve you well at a low price to ensure you keep coming. With government change does not come often enough when their is a problem, and like with corporations they can fool you into thinking you have a choice. I mean really we get the same results with either party in power it seems.

Somewhat, but I preffer healthcare to be a Government service that everyone can beneffit from, rather than a luxury that only people who have ensurance can use.

I dont want to pay for others unhealthy choices and habits wi=hich will just encourage people to keep making unhealthy choices since they dont have to foot the bill. Just doesn't seem right. I prefer we all have a choice

Seriously, these types of arguments are the worse out there. You're actually gonna blame people for getting sick? You think that everytime a person gets sick it's their fault? You do have a choice. Isolate yourself from society, if you don't wanna contribute to it. I don't think it's right no not recieve medical care if you don't have ensurance. It should not only be a public service, but a fundemental right, like education.

I could be wrong but  in the US the biggest cost to the health care system are obesity and tobacco related illnesses. Why should I care for people who do not care for themselves? They make the choice in how they want to live, they should foot the bill.

Everyone pays taxes, so everyone should  beneffit from healthcare. It's true that some people ruin their own health, but similarly, many people are stupid amd accidentally set fire to their own house, yet still recieve the service of the Fire dpt., while responsable people may never reuqire their services, but still pay for it. Not everything in society should be privatized, especially something on which the proper functioning of society depends.

@Thranx. Actually it turns out that because smokers pay more in taxes and essentially kill themselves before they get old they're actually cheaper than your average citizen.

Also suprisingly government run healthcare really works, even in quite large countries. The British may bitch about their NHS a bit, but in general they think its really worthwhile in the end.
