I tend to play mostly FPS/RTS but i also do alot of rpgs, third person, raceing. I guess I do platformers the lesat but I still play and enjoy them.

Whenever I need a break from my favorite genres.  As an example, back when the PS2/GC was out, I needed a break from the endless RPGs and Action games, so I decided to give Resident Evil Remake a try.  And it turned out to be one of the best games I had played in years.  Then just about 3 months ago, I decided to get a PS3 because I needed a break from the nedless RPGs and platformer titles on Wii and DS.  And games like Assassins Creed and Batman: Arkham Asylum became some of my favorite of all time.

In short, I step outside my comfort zone once in a while, usually with positive results. 

I diffently have my go to styles and that is mostly Platformers/JRPG's. I do step out of that a ton though for action/racing/puzzle/adventure/mini/Aracade shooters/ARPG's and motion games. Only a few types of games I just wont really bother with again and that is WRPG's/SRPG's/FPS/not big on sims/open world/music and im sure theres a few others.

Rarely. I always research my game months in advance before it comes out. There is really no excuse not to these days. I also look at some gameplay to see if I'll like it. I'll never pick up a game online or in-store out of impulse.

last year i drived from my Shooter Only gaming of the past 4 years into an wide variety of different genres from RPG's like Fallout, action adventure games, PC games like minecraft, etc. An now as result i am looking forward to an variety of games this year like Elder Scrolls and Rage which i would of never bothered with.
