Forums - Sales - Why do you think Killzone 3 isn't selling well?

because stupid ps3 fans dont support their great exclusives.

if these games were on xbox they would sell like this:

Killzone 3: 6 million LTD

Uncharted 2: 7 million LTD

GOW3: 5.5 million

i dont get it these are the sales they deserve but they dont get them

You are so right about that

Doubt that. I bet you the fact that there are 60% more 360's then there are PS3's in Americas, the FPS central region (where FPS's get 60-80% of their sales), is a bigger factor.

Had some games been a 360 exclusive, they would likely have sold 50% better if they were FPS's, but the same logic applies if Forza was a PS3 exclusive. However GoW3 is not a FPS, so I don't think it being a 360 exclusive would have helped. Not all 9/10 360 exclusives sell extremely well, look at Mass Effect 1 & 2 and Alan Wake. So...

Killzone 3: 4-4.5 million LTD

Uncharted 2: 7 million LTD

Forza Motorsport 2: 6 million LTD

Forza Motorsport 3: 8 million LTD.

:-O

Yea, I was the same with Lost Planet 1. That game really got me into online multiplayer and made me a better shooter player overall. KZ3 has rank bonuses, but just from hype Halo and CoD are bigger online. By no means is quality better, I love KZ, just I think CoD and Halo are a bit simpler.

kz3 has more than just rank bonuses, in game ribbons, exoskelotons, jetpacks, missions etc etc....I'm not gonna get into this sale argument tbh...if it sells well not halo well but well, then I have no complaints whatsoever...there are plenty of ppl to play with online all the time so my experience has been nothing but awesome. I just wanted to point out what you said absolutely made no sense and to be frank..a lie. Let's just leave it at that..

Well lets just say it's not hyped as much for casual gamers as Halo or CoD. I think not being the star title in a fall lineup makes a big difference to overall sales.

again I never did or want to get into the sales debate, as long as it's doing fine and have enough players to play online with, that's all that matters to me cuz I'm having a blast with it...it's one of the best MP experiences of this gen

anywho what I wanted to point out, I did. might wanna not say such things in the future if you don't have a clue about it

Pretty sure it's selling just fine. It's still early, and it has clearly shown that it has very strong legs thus far. I'm sure Sony/Guerrilla Games are perfectly happy, if not surprised at how well Killzone 3 has done. No doubt it has exceed most peoples expectations. So unless you had unrealistic expectations for it, (clearly you do) than there is no way it's sales so far have been disappointing.

I haven't been too impressed with KZ3 to be honest.

Graphics are fine, and the story is ok. I just couldn't get into the online and I still rather play Resistance2 than this. I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone except a FPS fanatic.

So...

EDIT: I mean, its a good game, but not what I would call AAA.

so a AAA games has to appeal to more than just the people who would normally play that game. Reminds me of GT5 and it's reviews how it got knocked for being ONLY a racing simulator for racing simulator fans

sooner the industry breaks this incredibly stupid mentality is when actual variety will see a return.

OT: I know A LOT of killzone fans who didn't bother getting KZ3 because of the dumbed down gameplay and multiplayer, I haven't got it yet because I have no more munny :(

"so a AAA games has to appeal to more than just the people who would normally play that game. "

Err. Whhaaaa? Is this a statement, comment, argument or what?

AAA has different definitions, but its generally referring to a top class game.

"Reminds me of GT5 and it's reviews how it got knocked for being ONLY a racing simulator for racing simulator fans"

So was I reminding you of this!? How does this apply?

"sooner the industry breaks this incredibly stupid mentality is when actual variety will see a return."

No. When games cost less than $10 000 000 to produce then we will see 'actual variety'. Oh wait, that's what PSN, Wiiware and Xbox Live Arcade are for.

What are you going on about!?

Seems to be selling okay for a Killzone game to me.  How else should it be selling?

Like a Halo game.

Why exactly?

The majority of FPS don't sell like Halo just like the majority of driving titles don't sell like GT or the majority of kart games don't sell like Mario Kart.

Why should Killzone 3 suddenly sell like Halo rather than selling like Killzone?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Killzone 3 is "not selling well" because the PS3 is not the "shooter box."

Killzone 3 is selling well for a PS3 exclusive. If you're asking why Killzone 3 sales aren't as strong as Halo, Call of Duty, or Gears of War it's because it doesn't have as strong of a multiplayer component. Multiplayer is fun, but there is nothing really bringing you back into the game. Resident Evil 5 sold well despite having poor multiplayer because of the strong label Resident Evil 4 laid. Also Killzone doesn't have as epic of a story arc as other Sci-Fi shooters like Halo, Gears of War, or Resident Evil. The events in Killzone 3 are much more loosly tied to the events in other Killzones compared to the other mentioned sci fi shooters. So..

1. Not as addicitve multiplayer as compeditors

2. Not the king of multiplayer games, so it's forgotten quickly since everyone else is playing Call of Duty.

3. Not so massive story arc.

I would disagree with that. Multiplayer is very good in KZ3. The reason it doesn't sell as well as Halo or Gears is because it the hype machine isn't their for it. Xbox owners are quick to pick up any crap game which is why most games sell more on the 360 vs. the PS3. PS3 fans are generally more select in their purchases. For me, I don't like any of the Halo games, none of the Gears games and none of the Call of Duty games.Resident Evil was also a horrible game. To me the controls were crap and the overall gameplay wasn't fun. Same goes for Socom series on PS3 Unreal Tournament etc. Really the only good FPS on the PS3 are KZ and Resistance. Warhawk and Uncharted take the crown for 3rd person. I still play KZ2, Warhawk, KZ3 and Uncharted 2 online.

From my experience with Killzone 2, Resistance, and Lost Planet multiplayer is that these games appeal to a smaller audience, and gameplay isn't as balanced, or applicable as Call of Duty or Halo. I mean in Lost Planet for example, get in a VS and you're on a kill streak, and the concept of using a grapple to climb is unusual.

When I say less addictive multiplayer, I'm probably using a poor choice of vocabulary. With my first point, I mean to say that the multiplayer keeps less people in. With the second point, I mean to say it draws less people in.

I don't think the second point is debatable. For the exact same reasons battlefield see's 1/4th as many sales as a CoD title. It's not THE multiplayer game to play, so it's brushed aside by most because a lot of gamers dedicate themselves to one game franchise

That bold comment I think is extremely biased. FPS sell better on 360 for the simple reason that there are 5:3 360's to PS3's in Americas, and Americas is about (2/3) to (4/5) the FPS market (depending the the game). Look at Call of Duty and Halo, and you will see most sales are in Americas despite PS3 having roughly the same sized market in EMEAA. The only time a 360 FPS sells more then 40% a PS3 FPS is when the 360 version is advertized more, as in the case of Homefront.

As for preferences, everyone has their own. I'm a big Lost Planet 1 fan(Not 2, 2 way terrible), but it never sold that well, even as an exclusive (timed, but who knew when it came out?). Halo, CoD, and Gears sell well because A. They are actually great polished games which get very high reviews, B. They appeal to the masses, similar to Mario Kart.

Killzone desrves more sales, but with 3 exclusive shooters to balance on the PS3, all relatively new franchises, and a much smaller instal base in the Americas region, I can see why sales are slow.

BTW for me, I tend to play almost every online game I can get my hands on, even if the experience is only par. I mostly play online, and I burn through all the online achievements/trophies relatively quickly. Only time I stop playing online for a game is when matchmaking takes a long time, and has unbalanced matched. That's why I stopped playing Front Mission online. When I get Crysis 2, I'll play it online, even though the MP demo kind of sucked. I'm currently only playing Halo and CoD online, but craving a new experience.

P.S. I find it funny to always see CGI in an arguement..

I agree FPS sell better in the Americas. I have noticed games like Viva Pinata and some other forgettable games get very large sales on the 360. I may be in the minority of game feel, but it seems to me that every Capcom game has horrible controls, most 3rd party games on the PS3 also suffer from this. COD for me is just boring and tends to suffer from the same control issues. In my experience the 360 has this issue with most of their games. Halo and Gears to me were not that great. Sure they sold a lot but for me sales don't mean it is a great game. If we went by that logic then the Wii was the best console this generation and Top Ramen was the best food in the US.

I really wish it would work for me. I can't help think how much mre I would have enjoyed Killzone 3 is it had great sales.

Why on Earth would sales determine if you have a certain amount of fun with a game or not?

Well I guess I said that wrong. If I choose to buy a game I'd rather buy the more popular one than the higher rated one. For example If Halo 5 gets a 9/10 and Mass Effect 3 gets 9.8/10 I'll still go with Halo 5 because I can play that game with a lot of my friends.
