Forums - Sony Discussion - SONY: PS3 over 50m units sold and 8m MOVE units sold.

Comparing GT5 to any single GT is spin on either side. Look at the franchise as a whole.

Its got 3 million left to match 2.

4.5 million to match 1.

5 million for 4

9 million for 3.

and this is with infor from 4 months ago.

gt5 will probablly break 1o millionlt which a lot alot of people said it had no chance to do.

and when it reaches 10 million it will have sold 15% of 9 different versions of the game

I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when PD releases its new GT5 numbers.

1. Prologue was a DEMO, so yeah GT5 was indeed the first iteration of the current gen.

2. I didnt know GT3 was bundled like Wii Sports was...If that was the case then why its sales are not over 100M units sold?

3. If I get your point, you're saying GT5 is only selling better in a couple of european countries than GT3. So in the end GT3 sold way better than GT5 worldwide.

Now is it easier to compare GT5 to GT4 because of the data accessibility? Yes. Is it relevant to do so? No, unless you ignore the whole concept of a first iteration on new HW, which would be like ignoring how video games sales are working.

Taking that into account, GT5 sales arent impressive at all. It's sad but it's still the reality.

1. Agree but sold more than 5 million... so it's count a lot.

2. GT3 was bundled with every PS2 in US for a long time... the best GT in US after GT3 arround 3.5 million.... GT3 sold over 7 million.

3. GT3 sold more in US because the bundles... GT5 sold more in EMEAA because it sold more... and Japan is terrible with GT5... that's my point... GT3 sales are inflated because the BUNDLES in US... if it bundled normal (not for every PS2) then lifetime could be 11-12 million like GT4.

No. It's easy to people compare a game heavy bundled in one region (GT3) with other with limited bundles (GT5)... but the most accurate comparison is GT5 and GT4 because the same leve of bundles... the GT5 had the first interaction advantage but GT4 had the bigger user base too.

After all GT5 is doing better than everyone expected (even me)... selling better than GT4 until now and maybe better than previous one (there no data to show that).

Now people not see how strong GT5 was in EMEAA:

GT (lifetime): 4,300k
GT2 (lifetime): 3,680k
GT3 (lifetime): 5,850k
GT4 (lifetime): 6,680k
GT5 (2 months): 3,970k

It's crazy how much Gran Turismo growed in EMEAA.

And how GT5 is doing good in Americas (US) too:

GT (lifetime): 3,990k
GT2 (lifetime): 3,960k
GT3 (lifetime): 7,140k (bundled with every PS2 for a long time)
GT4 (lifetime): 3,060k
GT5 (2 months): 1,580k

You see... GT5 is doing so good in Americas too.

So just Japan is bad for GT5.

People here will never accept or see that.

First of all there are near 56 million PS2 sold in America and ''only'' 7M GT3 sold, so stop claiming GT3 was bundled with every PS2 for a long time. It doesnt make any sense. We're not talking about a Wii Sports type of bundling here.

Second of all, again, you ignored my whole point of a first iteration of an established franchise on new HW while comparing GT5 to previous titles.

Finally, to all those blinded fans who claims the game is sure to reach 10 million...eh I've got some news for you...We're not even sure if a game like Just Dance 2 which sold way more unit each week and has become way more popular than GT will reach that milestone so I don't see why we should now assume GT5 will reach 10M. Especially when we see that GT5 doesnt make the top 40 anymore and is selling less than 10k/week in America.

It's less than 4 million away with 4 months of data missing. GT games have always been constant sellers. And the price isnt dropped yet.

I'm glad I'll be here when it does hit 10 mil.  Also, why don't you wait for PD to release their shipped numbers in case there any adjustments to be made?  And even if they aren't that big, you seem to be forgetting that GT5 is still a full priced game.  Once it gets a price cut and a Greatest Hits version, sales will see a nice continued bump.  Another HUGE thing you're forgetting is that a PS3 price cut is most likely coming this year.  Not only will this mean a bump in HW, but also increased interest in the PS3's biggest games.  And with the inevitable $249-$299 GT5 PS3 bundle coming this holiday season, GT5 will get incredibly closer to reaching that 10 mil goal.

Also, I'd like to see Just Dance try and make those same numbers if it were priced at $60 at release.

Why should we compare GT5 to GT3 ?
First iteration...so what? LMAO.

The popularity of a game is not changed by a console, however it does change by time. And as such comparing GT5 to its nearest predecessor is the best comparison in knowing how much the popularity has increased/decreased.

If we were to compare sales of Halo reach...what were we to compare it to? Halo 2 because its the second Halo on the 360 so compare it to the second Halo on the xbox or Halo 3 the one preceding it?

Obviously Halo 3.

So stfu.

Obviously you don't know a lot about how video game sales trends are working. The first iteration concept is well known among video game sales analyst.

Why do you think there is such a difference between established franchise iterations like FFX and FFXII, GT3 and GT4, Halo 3 and Halo Reach, MGS2 and MGS3, and so on? Do some research and you will find out that this concept is the rule, not the exception as the list can be very long.

So LMAO and stfu all you want but it's still a reality, kid.

What?

What differences are there between Halo 3 and Halo Reach? Halo Reach is selling similarly to Halo 3. There will always be some differences, but overall they are more or less the same.

As everyone in the whole thread has pretty much told you, GT 3 was heavily bundled in America. Its the only game that has sold extremely high every other GT games has sold around 10-11 million.

Why are you being blind to this clear fact? Its not as heavily bundled as Wii sports, but it was heavily bundled for a set period of time.

Forza was also heavily bundled and it did something like 3-4 million didn't it? But that was because it was bundled for a set period of time.

You need to do your research kid. And according to VGchartz MGS2 and MGS4 have sold the same, with only 300,000 difference between them. That is less than 10%, and can be considered as statistical tie.

1
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2)
Sony Computer Entertainment, Racer
7.14 1.89 5.86 14.89
2
Gran Turismo (PS)
Sony Computer Entertainment, Racer
3.99 2.55 4.31 10.85
3
Gran Turismo 4 (PS2)
Sony Computer Entertainment, Racer
2.85 1.26 6.50 10.61
4
Gran Turismo 2 (PS)
Sony Computer Entertainment, Racer
3.96 1.71 3.70 9.37
5
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
Sony Computer Entertainment, Racer
1.69 0.61 3.82 6.12

Look at this chart. All gran turismo's doing around 9.37-10.85. Except for GT3 and GT 5 because GT 5 is just released and GT 3 was heavily bundled.

If GT 5 does 10 million than its doing the norm for a gran turismo game.

Funnily enough if you include Gran turismo prologue the demo's sales into GT 5 sales because obviously its the demo its the same thing, it would equal 10.12 million. Well on its way to 14 million.

If you don't include the prologue, then it would mean this is the second gran turismo game this gen....and then you would have to compare it to GT 4....
