which is your favorite and why?  i probably shouldnt be making this thread yet as i havent played the third yet, but i just finished the second and was quite impressed on the improvement from the 1st to the 2nd.  i plan on getting the third within the next week to start.  i hope the improvement from 2nd to 3rd is as great as 1st to 2nd.

EDIT: i just started the third one, its pretty good so far.  they changed some of the controls which i dont like (mainly the magic being r2 instead of l2).  so far for me, its between 2 and 1.  the save points seem to be more spread out than in the first two.

2nd EDIT: i must say, im not one who cares too much for graphics, but holy hell, this game looks pretty freaking good.

part II was just such a huge jump

GOW3>GOW2>GOW imo the added new features in the sequels made it hard to back to it predecessors so after playing 2 i couldnt go back to 1 and after 3 i cant play 2

I liked the art style best in God of War the first, and the story was a bit more better, or rather Kratos had more character development in that game.   God of War 2 as a game, overall game design, is probably the best, right to the point and it never slows down.  For God of War 3, it just tied everything together nicely, graphics were jaw dropping good, but I feel the game relied too much on battle challenges as opposed to just progressing, so it slowed the game down too much.  I like God of War 2 best, if only for the pacing, in terms of sheer epicness God of War 3 is still on top for any game period.

Story wise GOW2 is the best.

Overall(graphics,gameplay,scale) GOW3 wins.

God of War 3!!!!!

I felt as if we stayed in the same place too long in god of war 1. God of war 2 added more locations and is arguably a better story imo. However god of war 3 for me is by far the best in terms of variety of locations, story, fights, etc.

GoW 2 = GoW 3 > GoW 1

The first one was great...but it lacked the mindblowingness of the other two. I've talked about this (what I think of each game in the franchise) to death on this forum..I don't think I can handle it again.
