Forums - Nintendo - Game Informer: Multiple Sources confirm new HD console at E3 for Nintendo

Significantly more powerful, eh? What type of media will they use? DVD-9? Digital downloads?

Hmm.

Hopefully, Microsoft and Sony wont follow. Developers are just starting to make big game with a reasonable budget and time. At the start of a new generation we get way less games :(. At least, this new console wouldnt be able be more powerful while keeping a reasonable price. And since its not Nintendo type to sell at a loss I guess they will bring some kind of inovation instead of more raw power then 360 or PS3.

And the thing is, there's no need for a new gen for microsoft/sony at this point.

Devs keep saying they aren't even using 100% of both consoles' capabilities, so...

Well based off job listing Microsoft is already hiring for the next Xbox. Also 360 has more to upgrade than the PS3. Graphics and also disc media (blu-ray).

Just want to play good games

IGN is reporting the same thing - and more details - from their own sources, so this looks like it's pretty much the real deal.

More powerful than PS3 and backwards compatible.

My guess is Nintendo reveals specs this E3 buts saves novel defining 'gimmick' until next E3 so MS/Sony can't copy (too quickly).

Really this is no surprise, the lack of games currently was telling their resources are elsewhere.  There's a ton of great stuff they can bring over from Japan for WIi to fill up the rest of this year and into next without needing much actual new content wise.

YESSSSSS!!!!

As a Nintendo fanboy, I hope this improvement in the graphics deparment helps to overcome my gamer-inferiority complex.

pwin´ every other villain since 1994

Not happening cause it would hurt 3DS and Skyward Sword

Like Twilight?

Are you forgetting how the GC sold compared to the Wii?

What about the GC?  Did it hurt Twilight Wii that it was also on GC?

Would it hurt skyward sword that the game would be on Wii and Wii2?  Honestly I believe Skyward stay on Wii only...Don't expect an Wii before end 2012..

Again, the public was taking to the Wii, not the GC. That's why it's not applicable.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

IGN is also reprting it and added that Nintendo is going to send a press release announcing the console and the full unveil will be at E3 just like what they did for the 3DS.

Kotaku and IGN are saying it's going to be better than the PS3 and 360 graphically.

Also the official E3 twitter also left a teaser.

Both those sites are using game informer as their sources. They are just spreading a rumor, not confirming it.

By the way, there were ALSO rumors of an HD, blu-ray ready Wii successor a year or so ago.

I'm not sure if I want to believe this. Nintendo has already they have new content in the pipeline anyway and it seems that most people are predicting a Wii 2 just because Nintendo doesn't have much content for it (mostly due to the 3DS launch)

That's exciting :)
