Having more exclusive niche JRPG crap doesn't make you king. Fable 2 and Lost Odyssy out weighs and outsold most of that stuff.

if "out weighs" is by quality I think Valkyria Chronicles and Demon's Souls balance out Fable 2 and LO quite nicely.

I would consider 360 the king of WRPGs and PS3 the console king of JRPGs, and I find that hard to dispute since I can't think of a single JRPG still scheduled to come out for 360 and there really aren't any exclusive WRPGs for the PS3.  Which you consider the "king of RPGs" is just a matter of which type of RPG you prefer.

Final Fantasy 13-2 comes to mind and Record of Agarest Wars Zero.

True, I forgot about 13-2 and ignored Agarest Wars Zero.  Should have said "no exclusive JRPGs set to release"

Hey man, cheers, I actually appreciate your post.

And if we talk about the upcomming tittles, i would totally give up my argument. There's too much stuff anounced exclusively to the PS3 (on the jRPG side at least). For the Xbox 360, there isn't much going on... i wonder if it stays like this for the rest of this gen (my bet is, it wont)

But as far as my concern go, Xbox 360's still winning. Even being "almost" even or not (c'mon, it's not! Xbox still has the first Mass Effect, Fable and Lost Odyssey). And that makes the Xbox 360 the king of RPGs. :p

I would prefer to stick with the topic now. Can we open a new thread and move this conversation to there?

Last Post about this! Mass Effect, Fable and Lost Odyssey are great but from a library point of view, and review wise, the 2 consoles are fairly even, My favorite RPG this gen is Valkryia Chronicles and its a PS3 exclusive, this is more a matter of taste really rather than any undisputed superiority of a certain library. Because both system enjoy some excellent RPG and its not a landslide for either side in term of both volume and quality, I don't think you can nominate a particular console as the RPG king like the PS2 was.

Ok fine to have taste for 1 console's offering but overall its more like the toss of a coin.

Anyways, on topic, I hope they choose to eventually release ToV PS3 version, its a shame that the West won't be getting the upgraded version of ToV... and we STILL no word on Tale of Grace F for Europe yet. Namco's failure to actually leverage this series is rather pathetic, with multiple system, lack of support in regions, limited available retail disk, its like they were asking for the series to fail.

So yea, I'm burnt, and won't be trusting Namco's word anytime soon. Word is cheap, get the games on my shelves first.

I think we should be patient, Tales of Graces will be successful in the US, and its likely Namco at the bare minimum will care about revenue and will release other games from the series in the US. if you want ToV then buy ToG when it comes out in the US and spread the word. the title will be a success and pave the way for future installments imo.

look at Demon's Souls, i think if Namco can get that level of sales with Tales in the US then they will release more Tales games in the west.

about the list you made, i'm not sure if you considered PC in the exclusive list, but DC Universe Online is one of those exclusive MMORPGs that gives the PS3 a laterial diversy that cant exist on the 360 due to the online fees. FF14 (whether a success or not) will be another PS3 'console' exclusive RPG due to free access to the PSN.

I've got ToV on the 360 already. But I would be happy to get the PS3 version if it includes Japanese voice option. I'm sure there is a market, Namco just generally don't see it as profitable and go into the endeavour half hearted than blame the market when the title fails to sell. Did you know that its virtually impossible to get Pal version of ToV atm? Even on ebay you'll be lucky to find 1 or 2 copy for sale, this really is sad.

And as for MMO, I didn't include them in the RPG list because they're whole 'nother beast and to be frank is more like there own genre.

I think, if you allow me to give my opinion, that if we have to name one system the "RPG King", we would need to destribute things equaly. And then we would have to consider one thing, wich one of the 4 systems have the best destribution of RPGs.

We can see that PC doesn't have alot of jRPGs (alot of stuff is missing, like LO, ToV, Star Ocean etc), and we can see that PS3 miss some WRPGs that are on both 360 and PC (or only in one of them), like the Fable series, the first Mass Effect, and a bunch of others. PS3 has its own jRPGs for sure, like Ar Tonelico, Atelier series, and other games, but that goes for Xbox 360 as well, since it has stuff like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Magna Carta 2, TLR and Infinite Undiscovery. Don't take me wrong, i actually love some of the stuff NiS have gave us on the PS3, but i would give the edge to the 360 for Lost Odyssey itself.

Wii has no such thing as a wRPG, and its not known for its jRPG either.

So yeah, in my opinion, if there is such thing as a "king of the RPGs" this gen, it should be the Xbox 360 for being the one who have the best library all in all. But that's more like the king of the fools if you ask me. lol

WRPG - Borderlands

PS3 Stats:
(Current)                                 (Upcoming)
JRPG = 16                               JRPG = 5
WRPG = 13                            WRPG = 9

360 Stats:
(Current)                                 (Upcoming)
JRPG = 10                               JRPG = 1
WRPG = 23                            WRPG = 9

I dunno... it looks kinda even, with PS3 slanted more towards JRPG and the 360 more towards WRPG. I will note however that the 360 seems to be getting less and less exclusive WRPG while the PS3 continues to enjoy a few upcoming JRPG exclusive.

You will also note that I have not included games that have not been confirmed for the west such as Tale of Xilia and a few other niche game that has been confirmed for Japan release or is already out.

excuse me but, ToV is on PS3, just not out of Japan =P.

Fable and console exclusives take the win?

If I knew that people would try and make me laugh instead of try and disprove me, I'd never post in this thread.

I think Lost Odyssey makes it a 360 win, its the best JRPG this generation, then there is Last Remenant as well, and Tales of Vesperia, Western RPG's are virtually tried, the PC has most of the ones of 360 and the more recent ones are on PS3/360/PC anyway

See, we can't use 1 game to determine which one has a better line up since TLS and Xenoblade both rock recent JRPGs, on Wii......... TLR is a much more actual completed game on PC and ToV is on the PS3 so.....

well tales of vesperia isnt available to ps3 owners in the west so............ and theres nothing wrong with the last remnant on the 360.

I didn't forget it, I just didn't include it because it's pointless to list it when I'm providing a list of availible games for each system for western users to enjoy, since its not out in the west and there is no English version, its not relevant atm :)

For the ps3 you forgot :

- Atelier Totori

- Atelier Meruru

- Neptunia 2

- Ninokuni

- Tales of Xilia

- Rune Factory Oceans

That's probably by design since none of those have been confirmed for Western release yet.
