A YouTube video of a Texas police officer using pepper spray on a baby squirrel has sparked outrage. Distressed kids from Kimbrough Middle School in Mesquite are heard on the student-recorded clip telling the uniformed officer to stop spraying the tiny animal. The squirrel had apparently chased students around the school grounds Wednesday afternoon. Sgt. Wes Talley, of the Mesquite Police Department, told Fox News the animal was suspected of having rabies and had tried several times to scare the squirrel away from the students. The officer then used pepper spray to protect the children, Talley said. As of Sunday, the 36 second video had 221,000 views. Animal control officers treated the squirrel, and released it back into the wild the following day. |

Stupid police. The school is just as stupid, calling the police on a baby squirrel. It's a baby squirrel, they are known to form attatchments at young ages and are very frantic, it's a fucking baby. It'd be like kicking a puppy because it got too excited when people came over.
The cops are also fucking dumb, because anyone thats had half an education would know that small rodents (squirrels, mice, chipmunks, guinea pigs) can't get rabies. I can't believe his department allowed him to go on to TV mentioning rabies, they didn't even check if he was right or not.
Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
i don't condone cruelty top animals, but what would have been his alternatives?
the squirrel obviously behaved strange, or they would have not called him in the first place, and it even closed in instead of running away, he was right about suspecting rabies.
he is a police officer not a trained animal conntrol officer. he didn't have the equipment nor the knowledge how to deal with this situation, but he had a attacking squiirel and and there were obviously kids behind him.
now what else should he have done?
i wouldn't want to see the alternative headlines "kid kontracts rabies from squirrel because officer walks away"

If Doobie is right, then the officer really is stupid. The fact that he's not an animal control officer is not important. The Police Department should've told the school to call Animal Control, to fix their evil baby squirell situation.

Should shmould. that is not what happened. it is not his fault they called him, we don't know what they told him. how long would the animal contol take to get there? how long the police? maybe he wanted to have a look at the situation to decide what to do?
Everyone can come up with better solutions when they have time to think about it.
what would you have done? you just admitted yourself you didn't know that small rodents can't get rabies (wich is not true by the way, just very unlikely).
as it unfolded you stand between a unusual behaving animal with a possible dangerous desease and some kids.
