Forums - General - Sick new Tablet PC coming to market

Haven't seen a post here about it. It looks awesome, and the price is incredible:

Its the Asus eee Transformer. It is a 10.1 tablet running Android 3.0 (Honeycomb)

Specs include:

  • Nvidia TEGRA 2 dual-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 16GB of storage (expandable with on-board MicroSD)
  • Front & Rear facing cameras
  • Mini HDMI
  • 9-10hr battery life
  • Wi-Fi
  • Flash Support

In addition, that keyboard you see is a docking device for the tablet. If you buy the keyboard, it adds ~7hrs of battery life, and an SD Card slot for SD storage capabilities. The touchscreen glass is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, which is nearly shatter-proof.

Here is the best part. The price was leaked at $399.00 USD. That is $200 less than a Xoom for arguably the same device with slightly lower storage capacity.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

These tablets aren't going to take off until they include WIndows.

Android is just a toy to me. I want to play my Steam games!

The tablet PC market is really becomming a "red ocean" before it has even established itself ...

I find it odd that I know as many people interested in the Coby Kyros as are interested in the iPad, and the vast majority of companies in the market are strictly focused on competing directly with the iPad and are ignoring a large segment of the market that is being ignored by Apple.

I might be the only person interested, but I would gladly trade processing power, features, and style to have a less expensive and more durable tablet PC.

I don't get the need for these, I really don't. You could just get a small netbook for the same price, but I guess it's just me that I don't see the appeal of tablets :/. Also, I came in here expecting sick, where is it?

Part of the appeal for me is that some of the smaller less expensive tablets are (somewhat) competitive with an ebook reader; and, while they're not as well suited to reading, this is (more or less) made up for by being able to do more things. With that said, I don't understand the appeal of the high end tablets at this point in time; beyond the fact that they're interesting technology.

Netbook is still going to be a lot heavier than a tablet. I never saw the appeal of netbooks in the first place.

Plus I would rather leverage an app store like Android/iTunes than get whatever piecemeal offerings there are for netbooks.

Well my mother has 9-10' notebook, it's pretty light, the only bad thing about it is the fact that it's bloody pink, otherwise it's already reasonable small, has OK storage(250GB or something), runs windows 7 and can easily be carried around/placed on your lap if you're on a train or something ( I took it on the bus one day when I had to take it somewhere, it was a bit embarassing sitting there with a pink netbook with flower design on the lid). Also like 1/2GB RAM or something, and the best thing is it cost around £200 about 6 months ago, that's like $300, and laptops in UK are quite expensive too. If it has access to the internet, it's pretty much a computer, so I was even able to play minecraft on it(I think, don't remember if I did..). Whereas apps offer menial things and social and addictive games, angry birds and all that shizz - which I by the way get on my android phone.

You never saw the appeal of a netbook? They have a fully operational Windows OS and its easier to carry around than a standard notebook laptop.

You'd rather be limited to app store vs any software Windows is capable of running? You're in the minority. The app stores are a joke in comparison.

Technicially netbook computers are vastly superior. Much higher capabilities and lower price.

These Android and Apple devices are easier to carry around and mostly just for mobile entertainment.

Peacemeal offerings for netbooks? They can run windows for goodness sakes, the operating system with the largest software base of any operating system.
