Forums - General Discussion - 46% of Mississippi Republicans think interracial marriage should be banned

Wow is all I can say, I can't believe these numbers. However like most polls, they use different techniques to get the results they desire. Here are some of the poll questions.

Q14 Do you think interracial marriage should be
legal or illegal?
Legal............................................................... 40%
Illegal .............................................................. 46%
Not sure .......................................................... 14%

Q15 Would you describe yourself as very liberal,
somewhat liberal, moderate, somewhat
conservative, or very conservative?
Very liberal ...................................................... 4%
Somewhat liberal ............................................ 4%
Moderate......................................................... 17%
Somewhat conservative.................................. 36%
Very conservative ........................................... 40%

Q16 If you are a woman, press 1. If a man, press 2.
Woman ........................................................... 47%
Man................................................................. 53%

Q17 If you are 18 to 29 years old, press 1. If 30 to
45, press 2. If 46 to 65, press 3. If you are
older than 65, press 4.
18 to 29........................................................... 12%
30 to 45........................................................... 20%
46 to 65........................................................... 36%
Older than 65.................................................. 32%

I want to see the break down on age group to percents of each answer.

400 Republicans, really?

That is a very strange sample size. Generally, they ask 1,000 registered voters, 1,000 likely voters and so on, then break down the data by demographic/political affiliation.

Although its crazy to see their results, I really have to question why they didn't ask the same question of Democrats, or have a larger sample size. Furthermore, I can't find any comparative data on the accuracy of PPP outside of their one quote from a WSJ article. RCP doesn't even have them listed as a pollister firm, which is very questionable.

*edit*

After reading up on PPP, they are a Democrat pollister firm which is usually employed by Democrats to provide biased, targeted polling. They've readily admitted to it, too.:

According to PPP, they were paid to poll North Carolina's senatorial seat in 2010, and stated that Richard Burr was one of the most vunerable candidates in the nation. In reality, Mr. Burr won the seat by the largest majority in state history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Burr#2010_Senate_campaign

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Yeah, I'm thinking that is a key part of the interracial question. 46 and onlder account for 68% of the group, including 32% that are older than 65. I'm betting the majority of the 65 and older group are responsible for most of that 46%.

Ya, the 18 - 29 generation, my generation, and some of the early 30 year olds tend to be all for equality.

Seems the GOP still has the mentality of segregation. Not to shocked actually.

yep more of a well known fact that didn't need polling.

even in sertant areas Louisiana this is still an isue, and the kkk is on the rise in europe.

the poll would be more suprising if 30 or 40% polled felt that way lol.

No shock there, there are folks in the South that still cling to the old ways.  Places like Rural Alabama are worse as the KKK still runs strong there.

Theres a decent amount of thoose in Indiana too. Two of the towns around me are known for running out any family that isnt white and holy cow at some stuff you would hear working at the gas station off a interstate by one of them. Example: When they said coon hunting they didnt mean the animals.

Well there is a saying.

"Southerners call people from Mississippi hicks."

It still seems like really suspisous numbers.

Edit: Well i guess that's not a saying.  It's just what i've heard other southerners say.

People in Nevada are hippies?  That's a scary thought.  To me it seems like most people in Nevada are very conservative, outside of prositution and gambling... which the state needs to live.

I think it's more for lack of a better word, and more focused around Vegas. I've heard a lot of bad stuff about Vegas, and not much of the rest of the state.

I'm not really sure what it's called, but listening to some of the older folks around here talk about people is quite hilarious. They can badmouth anybody xD Xenophobic sounds about right, but pretty strong...
