Forums - Sales - Americas UP!

I've been saying this all last year, but people called my a fanboy/hater/crazy/whatever. Now suddenly I can buy a used Kienct for $99, and amazon is sending me emails for a $50 giftcard if I buy Kinect. The fall is already starting, as expected.

It's a simple concept. The hardware needs games in order to keep selling, even a hardware add on like Kinect, because GAMES are its primary purpose. If it doesn't get the games, there is no longer a reason to buy the hardware. Kinect Sports and Dance Central can only do so much. Even the phenomenal success NSMB Wii could only carry Wii for about a year.

That's basically what I was saying most of last year.  Kinect didn't have a Wii Sports/Fit-caliber release to keep sales afloat for more than several months.

It'll still do fairly well, but it needs new software, and I don't see much in its upcoming line up that will reinvigorate sales significantly.

Good to see Ghost Recon in the top 40 for 3DS and great sales for Street Fighter as well. We want third party games to sell, we don't want a Wii situation :S

Also this means that launch aligned, the 3DS sold a total of:

Japan: 374,164

 EMEAA: 346,021

US: 672,054

AUS: 31,271

TOTAL: 1.42 Million in week one

Do you have the week one of another console?

All I can find right now is that the Nintendo DS sold about 500k week one in the US market. It was released on November 24th for $149.99. So the 3DS beat the DS even though the original was released in the middle of the holiday season for $100 less. You'd expect it to beat it of course but it's still worthwhile noting the performance of each system in terms of the date and price.

Edit: Also Australia, "19,191 units were sold from Thursday 24 February to close of business Sunday 27 February."

Also, Australia:

DS - $199.95, sales of 19,191

3DS - $300 - 349.95 (depending where you bought it from) sales of 31,271

what the shit is going on with the formatting????

Looks like 4 million shipped was an overestimate, but atleast the news of preorders on the second shipment is a good sign.

Personally, i think April 14th will show bigger numbers than what VGC is showing.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

kinect is doing pretty bad.   amazon has already dropped the price on kinect and is offering $25 gift cards with purchase.  kinect is not going to be the savior of the 360  the way they hope

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

- Wii and PS3 closing gap with Xbox360.

- Kinect could be undertracked. If not, this week will be under the 75k average WW (I think this would be only in summer, but the effect is almost off)

- NDS outselling PSP 2:1 with the succesor on shelves. Amazing.

- Software numbers are bad.

I'll probably wait until Kinect drops to $49 (which won't appear to take very long) then I might get it. I've already seen it used on amazon for $99 several times, so it's already half way there in 4 months.

As many know, I am pretty anti Kinect, but that's mainly because its games look terrible. If they improve, who knows. Children of Eden looks like it could be interesting, and my family would get a kick out of Dance Central. I might even be inclined to try out that Star Wars arcade game, provided I can get it for like $20 or less.

Surprised Crysis 2 didn't hold up as well in Americas as it did over the EMEAA trerritories.

Homefront is looking good to eventually crack 1 million on 360 in Americas. Nice.

Black Ops on PS3 in the Americas has sold more than any other PS3 game globally, except for GT5 and other CoD games. makes me a little

Once again Japan will take PS3 beyond the statistical tie zone which Wii and 360 will be sitting in this week. Was a time when Americas ensured 360 got above PS3, and over the statistical tie barrier most weeks, I wonder if those days will return at some stage. It'll require 360 eating into the PS3 EMEAA weekly lead as well as more daylight between them in the Americas to do it I imagine. What can achieve that sort of sea change? Price cuts? a game? a Kinect killer app?

E3? MS say they've got huge plans for Kinect in 2011. It can't be all blowing smoke. Can't be just the Forza 4 thing either.
