Every franchise has to die sometime, sometimes its lack of creativity and sometimes its circumstance or maybe the fans just decide to let it go. The PS3 may unfortunately be the circumstance if GTA5 is PS3 exclusvie a factor which will diminish the franchises' fanbase to the point that it can no longer sustain itself as the giant it used to be. Rock Star really needs to be careful with how they handle their cash cow franchise. I'm sure they're convinced people will buy it no matter where it goes, but... then again I can think of a Company who thought similarily of their next gen console this generation and let's just say that such arrogance hasn't paid off as they would have hoped.

No. How about Mario, Zelda, Metriod, Gran Turismo, Duke Nukem, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and many others? They have withstood the test of time. Im sure GTA, Halo, Gears of War, Kingdom Hearts, and many others can too.

If this is true I say bad move. Rather have a established franchise over a new one any day in terms of sales. GTA4 is going to be BIG similar to Halo 3. Also GTA4 is coming out in 2008 vs who knows when this exclusive game will come out. I am sorry but I am ready to play right now not 2009-2010 etc.

Didn't Rockstar sort of hint at making another PS3 exclusive as well, aside from L.A. Noir? I remember reading someting from Rockstar that mentioned L.A. Noir, which only mentioned PS3 right beside it, and there was another PS3 exclusive. I can't find it, but here is a quote from a Gamespot article:

"Nothing whatsoever was revealed about the new franchise except the clarification that it would not be LA Noire."

I don't know if this means that Sony secured 2 exclusives, but if it is, than they made a smart move.

Mario - Stays fresh because it is continuously reinvented

Zelda - Not as fresh as Mario but persists due to the same principal. If the next Zelda doesn't drop some jaws we can count this on the same endangered list as Star Fox.

Metroid - Metroid has never been a terribly successful franchise in terms of sales and has had its share of stumbles. While a gem, it's perhaps one of Nintendo's least impressive franchises when it comes to performance.

Gran Turismo - Is a declining franchise with declining sales. Face it GT3 was the peak, its only downhill in sales from here no matter how good or beautiful the game is. Don't get me wrong, there is a great deal of room for optimism for this franchise, but the PS3 has yet to wow us with any of its exclusives and don't expect sales from this that will compare to GT4.

Duke Nukem - You're kidding right?

Doom - Yes because Doom 3 wasn't a lingering lesson in an old codger trying to live up to its former days of glory in an age of games where such an archatypical FPS struggles to even raise its head above the crowd. Face it, Doom, while a legendary franchise is in this modern day of gaming about as fresh as Pacman.

Mortal Kombat - Okay, now I'm seriously wondering if you're not just being sarcastic

Street Fighter - It's hardly the success it used to be and while its not quite stale yet, it's getting pretty damn chewy.

Resident Evil - Resident Evil is younger than most franchises you've listed and can be argued to be still in its prime but let's face it we'll probably never see another one anywhere near as good as RE4.

Final Fantasy - Are you serious? This series has only been downhill since FF7. FF8 was forgiveable, FF9 was enjoyable, FF10 was novel, but FF11-FF12 were just the clear indication to any fan that things aren't getting better and this thing has got to end. You would have done well to leave this stagnant franchise out of your list.

Dragon Quest - Considering the only people who seem to care about this franchise are the Japanese and the series hasn't really evolved what-so-ever in formula since the very first one and is primarily popular due to the fact that the Japanese treasure linear and traditional RPGs doesn't really leave a whole lot of room for this franchise to be weighed. Its the unique case scenario where a franchise's appeal continues due to its lack of change, a factor which would doom any other franchise.

In regards to your future ambitions.

GTA, I'm pretty sure has hits it peak and you can only reinvent the same sandbox formula so many times in so many social setting before people recognize the fact that once you've played one, you've played them all. Either way, if we see this become a PS3 exclusive, we can expect a steady downard trend in sales if nothing else.

Halo is finished, Bungie doesn't want to make anymore thus why they left MS's control and the series has only been downhill since the first. Halo3 was by default of the severity of its anticipation and hype perhaps one of the most dissapointing games of this generation so far. I can't imagine a fourth or fifth one bringing anything new or redeeming to the series in any way.

Gears of War? There's ony one out, wait for a second one before being so optimistic please.

Kingdom Hearts, after the dissapointment that was the second one for many fans I'm hard pressed to see the third one as anything more than a selling point for whatever system snatches it. Face it, Square doesn't have the talent anymore to keep their franchises fresh. I predict the third will be superior to the second, but you really have to ask yourself how long can this continue with Square's current track record?

This could be brilliant or really stupid, borderline suicide. All depends on what that second game is.

Actually they passed up the content for the next GTA. LA Noire is a separate exclusive.

it is likely that more people would buy an XBox 360 to play the exclusive content in GTA than will buy a PS3 to play LA Noire.

I dont think so. I think your average consumer will walk into the games shop, see that both the PS3 and the 360 have GTAIV, and then notice that the PS3 also has an exclusive by the same company who made GTAIV.

Personally I'm very happy, I'd much rather have a new IP then some bonus content.

i think the average consumer doesn't even know who makes GTA4. I'm not even sure the average consumer knows who makes nintendogs.

GTA4 will be the turning point between MS and sony for me;

if the game is better on Xbox360 (better frame rate for example)
if the Xbox360 just receive a price drop
if MS do a lot of advertising about the exclusive content
if the exclusive comes soon enought
if the exclusive is worth playing

Sony is in the SHIT.

The supposed news IPs from R* exclusive for the PS3 are good BUT
will they be sufficient ?
I doubt they will come soon enought

Time to Work !
