3DS has a not excessive drop from its launch week, but, compared to Japan and the first data we get from America, EMEAA remains its weakest region. Having Nintendogs as its strongest launch title here isn't helping it, bad news for Ninty, good news about the average IQ of EMEAA gamers.

3DS numbers aren't as high as they could be, but that's because Nintendo learned from the launch of the Wii and priced it right for the launch year instead of having to deal with a crapton of demand that they couldn't satisfy.

It'll mean that the console should peak later in it's life, instead of earlier. It'll follow the DS in terms of sales and not the Wii.

erf that's a bit decieptfull... all local 3DS change is -52%... so they based themselves on an overall figure and just spread it out to europe... a bit disapointed by this... only reason overall is 43% is because of australia.

I can't believe how badly Move Heroes did... I never expected it to do well, but this is flop of the decade material.

wowser... didnt see that.  Whats the next MOVE specific title that is due?

Other than PSN titles, maybe Sorcery? I've not been keeping track though.

I forgot that Move Heroes never actually charted so to save people having to search for the info it did 13k in the opening week WW and 2K in its second week in EMEAA.

Thats the one I was thinking of... Sorcery.  Wasnt this supposed to be out just after christmas?  I remember jneul banging on about these two tiles as AAA.

i don't remember any release date or even a window for sorcery other than 2011.

i would say sorcery looks promising but i would hardly call it AAA (i use AAA to refer to budget though so maybe it's just a difference in definition).   The E3 trailer for Heros looked really bad imo.  The game might not be great now but based off of the demo it turned out better than i would have expected.

i'm hoping sorcery turns out to be a good game but based of of these sales -- good game or not sorcery probably is going to bomb sales-wise.

3ds is not very inspiring.

Really, really poor hardware numbers elsewhere...

YOY:

Wii: DOWN 57%  (wow)

PS3: DOWN 32%

360: DOWN 26%

PS2: DOWN 64%

DS: DOWN 67%

PSP: DOWN 65%

and software? - DOWN 24%

AWFUL!

All systems already saturated current price points and people are waiting for price drops. If all three price drop by at least 50 euro we will be looking at YoY increases very fast.

Perhaps... but for how long?  A price drop isnt going to double Wii sales to take them to last years numbers for any sustained period.  No chance.

At best price cuts will help match last years numbers for perhaps the PS3, the rest are looking at being down this year in EMEAA.

The gen is shrinking, dont care what people say about magical price points.

After 5 years youd expect any Gen to be in decline in terms of year on year hardware sales, but it will decline over a couple of years happily while software makers happily ride out the huge install base, i think software is down just like all industrys are down with the world wide money problems, just today Portugal are now asking to be bailed out by the EU financially.

Also until PS3 has its price reduced to 199 or less in $, £ and Euros i dont think weve seen its peak year. Magical price points for luxury items do exist.

$199 is $259 in todays money

I dont think it is, i know with inflation magic price points should follow suit, but i really dont think they do, the point of a magic price is that mentally it doesnt seem like a big number and a price starting with a 1 is a massive part of that. Its also the price point where you start to get a decent amount of impulse purchases, which certainly over 250 i certainly dont think youll get.

Well it is...  inflation from 2010 in the US to now is 30% plus.

You are referring to the PS2.  The price drop of the PS2 happened after 2 years, the timing and price point are massively important.  The PS3 is now closer to 5 years.

Go here for some further reading.

30% since 2010? Impossible! That's 3rd world inflation. From 2010 to now I'd think 4-5% inflation max. Or are you meaning 2001? then 30% would make sense.

I think you'd be spot on with the $259 thing, if it weren't for the GFC. The affordability of consumer electronic goods has gone down with people being a lot more careful with their money. So in the current climate I don't think any alleged magic price point has gone up from $199. The influence of the magic price point on PS3/360 sales is questionable too.

Anyhoo, looks like the mid year sales drop has really kicked in. Won't be long before 360 falls way behind it's WW 2010 weekly sales when the 2010 phat price cut and Slim launch kick in. Wii's annual sales are falling away fast, and PS3 is going to hover in that 25-35% down range by the looks of things. Price cut for all the systems will mean 2h11 will be better for PS3 than 2h10, but for Wii nothing can bring it back up even to 2010 sales. Hard to know whether 360 price cut will boost sales beyond last year, will be an interesting one to watch.

Very nice 2nd week hold over for Crysis 2 on both consoles. I think Crytek will be please with its move to consoles, even though the PC hardcore are not. Homefront continuing to defy gravity, way to spit in the eye of the critics THQ.

interesting ... i was going to say the drop off was less than expected but i didn't realize it included 1st week sales for australia.

Intelligent observation. Before reading your post, I actually fell for it, I just read the local Italian numbers, 52% down, and the EMEAA total and, besides overlooking Oceania, I incorrectly assumed elsewhere from my country the drop was lower enough to give a 43% overall.

Move Heroes is a damn mini game compilation!! Did anyone think it would do well, we know that crap dont sell on PS3 and Sony tried to make it look like it would be a 3d platformer, try again. And wasnt Motorstorm pulled off shelves because of the quakes???
