Well it is... inflation from 2010 in the US to now is 30% plus. You are referring to the PS2. The price drop of the PS2 happened after 2 years, the timing and price point are massively important. The PS3 is now closer to 5 years. Go here for some further reading. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=126716&page=1&str=1140247666#23 |
30% since 2010? Impossible! That's 3rd world inflation. From 2010 to now I'd think 4-5% inflation max. Or are you meaning 2001? then 30% would make sense.
I think you'd be spot on with the $259 thing, if it weren't for the GFC. The affordability of consumer electronic goods has gone down with people being a lot more careful with their money. So in the current climate I don't think any alleged magic price point has gone up from $199. The influence of the magic price point on PS3/360 sales is questionable too.
Anyhoo, looks like the mid year sales drop has really kicked in. Won't be long before 360 falls way behind it's WW 2010 weekly sales when the 2010 phat price cut and Slim launch kick in. Wii's annual sales are falling away fast, and PS3 is going to hover in that 25-35% down range by the looks of things. Price cut for all the systems will mean 2h11 will be better for PS3 than 2h10, but for Wii nothing can bring it back up even to 2010 sales. Hard to know whether 360 price cut will boost sales beyond last year, will be an interesting one to watch.
Very nice 2nd week hold over for Crysis 2 on both consoles. I think Crytek will be please with its move to consoles, even though the PC hardcore are not. Homefront continuing to defy gravity, way to spit in the eye of the critics THQ.
