I'm basing this off people I know plus my former GF. People that barely watch anime, and look steretypically hipster (didn't even know wtf hipster meant while I was with her).

As for DeathNote... while not stright up action, the character of Kira is exactly the one to appeal to shonen fans.

A shonen series does not need to have action. The term shÅnen, shonen, or shounen manga (å°‘å¹´æ¼«ç”», shÅnen manga^?) refers to manga marketed to a male audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18.
