I played the demo of Rage of the Gladiator and liked it. I downloaded the game but haven't had the time to play it, but I liked what I saw. If you like punchout you may want to give it a try.

I remember reading it supports motion plus! I wonder how that turned out.

Honestly, I haven't had much luck outside of the games that everyone already knows about that you'll find in the top 25 lists. Even the ones listed in this thread like Zombie Panic in Wonderland, Bit Trip, etc... Those are the core sort of Wiiware titles that people already know about.

Please give Monsteca Corral a try, then. This is a game I am almost certain will not sell well enough, and I'd really like to see these kinds of experiences find a bigger audience on Wii.

I can't say I was pleasantly surprised by any WiiWare game, the ones that are good I did expect to be. On the other hand, there were plenty of supposedly good titles that are actually average at best.

I just list games that are definitely worth their money: Mega Man 9 and 10, Jett Rocket, Hydroventure, Toki Tori, Neves Plus. Okay, the last one could count as a hidden gem. Well, if you like Tangram. 500 puzzles in five game modes and multiplayer support for only €5.

Can't wait for FAST Racing League!!!

Jett Rocket, really? I tried the demo and it looked nice, but played like a very bland platformer. What do you think is so good about it?

Final Fantasy 4 - The After Years was good, although you have to pay like 3000 wiipoints to play the whole game (DAMN YOU DLC!!!), I haven't downloaded anything else and I've got 800 wiipoints since last July I think lol, what do you recommend? (that is priced 800 wp of course)

How about Bit Trip Runner? haven't played it yet but looks cool and is 800 points.

I would say the best hidden gem for me is Flowerworks, the game developed by the user shams (he hasn't been online in a long time). It is probably difficult to see the appeal of the game in images or even video, but the flower works puzzle stages are very fun, use the IR pointer controls very well, and become quite challenging. It is a lengthy game, I think it took me about 12 hours to complete, and there is still a lot more to do after beating the main game. In Europe the game is only 500 points, and I highly reccomend the game at that price. In Americas it is a 1000, which it is still worth, but I would make sure you have watched some videos just to make sure the game interests you somewhat.

Art of Balance is a really highly rated WiiWare game, but I don't hear it talked about very much. It is an extremly polished game, very fun, a good value (I think it is 600 or 800 points). I also really like the local vs. mode.

Water Warfare was a fun wiiware game, and the online mode was good too, and a nice take on FPS, shame most people seen it as a kids game.

I hear a lot of you guys saying the pickings are rather slim.. and without proper demos it really is hard to know otherwise...

But going by this list there appear to be quite a few games with good ratings:

I can personally recommend Pearl Harbor for 700 points! a very fun rogue-squadron like ww2 flight game.

Has anyone tried Swords & Soldiers? Always wanted to check that one out.

And how about Tomena Sanner or the Magic Obelisk?

Art of Balance, ThruSpace and Frobot also had fun demos, anybody buy those?

Or how about LIT, Flowerworks, Bonsai Barber, Rock n' Roll Climber, Blaster Master Overdrive, And Yet It Moves, ExciteBike World Rally, Driift, Mix Superstar, Air-Port Mania...

they can't all be stinkers! Nintendo really needs to improve the transparency of this service!!

gumby, I think there are a lot of great WiiWare games, but most of them I would not consider "hidden gems", they are more the high profile titles. If you are interested just in WiiWare in general I'll go over all the games I have.

For recommended WiiWare games in general I own and recommend: LostWinds (1 and 2, my two favorite WiiWare games), Art of Balance, Flowerworks, Megaman 9 10, ExciteBike World Rally, Airport Mania, Rage of the Gladiator, Cave Story, NyxQuest. These are all really great games.

Other games I enjoyed but would be slower to recommend: Swords and Soldiers (fun, but eventually you just press the same button over and over), Sonic 4 (fun but too expensive), Strong Bad (fun if you like the website, but too expensive), Dive: Secret of Mendes (Fun, gets a little repetitive), Water Warfare (almost good enough to recommend, but if you are picky about FPS controls don't get this game), TV Show King (Fun if you like trivia and have people to play with, but get the sequel its cheaper and has online).

Did not enjoy: Final Fantasy Dark Lord, Frogger (fun, but can find a free flash version just as good), Bomberman Blast (most people like this, but I just never figured it out).
