Forums - Gaming - I think Square-Enix has lost it.

I didn't realize that Quest had been purchased by Square so long ago, even before the Enix merger. Crazy. Now I understand why the Ogre series has disappeared.

to be real : April 1st 2003 was the actual downfall of SE, since then they didn't make anything original and just milked their series

SquareSoft as I might put it, use to have confirm release dates for their games, now its just straight bullshit how they take their time on prime franchises and make ports of other games to make small profit on.

I say SquareSoft has totally failed when Enix joined and also when Hironobu Sakaguchi (father of Final Fantasy) left the company.

Its sad....and FFXIII is still TBA on a release date.

I wonder why?

Oh I no....Do to them making these shitty ports of other games and putting prime games (FFXIII, FFvs.XIII) on hold...

Yeah, apparently Quest got bought in 2002. It didn't help that the Tactics Ogres guys defected back in 97 to make Final Fantasy Tactics... which wouldn't bother me other then the fact that everything was ripped off, from the map, to the combat sysem... to the chibish little fat guys, to the way they kept swaying their hands. I still enjoy FF Tactics, but it was basically just Tactics Ogre with some FF5 thrown on top. Was funny seeing Lans Tartae and Lans Hamilton in Final Fantasy 12 too reprising their roles.

There are so many SRPGs around now, I would much rather see a revival of the Ogre Battle franchise proper, ie. March of the Black Queen and Person of Lordly Caliber.

I remember playing Final Fantasy x on the PS2 and thinking "This is the best game ever!!"

I remember playing Final Fantasy X-2 on the PS2 and thinking "Damn, this sucks. At least Yuna's wearing hot pants."

Right about that time, Square Enix began to deteriorate in my eyes. I hear Final Fantasy XIII is really good, but for whatever reason, I have no desire to play it. I loved Square since the SNES days, but I guess people's tastes change over time.

Yeah, i'd like to see either really. The problem with the SRPGs around is they're all on handhelds! I just can't get into handheld gaming. The Tactics Ogre series was a bit different in it seemed to have the right level of "rigidness" as far as SRPGs go. Fire Emblem being a little too restricting... and Final Fantasy Tactics being waaay to easy to make uber characters that can own everybody. The Ogre Battle series is still one of a kind though. It really started my love of games where you don't directly control the action.

Sadly, this is a smart move. For a game that probably costs them about $20k to make (if that) they will easily make $200k profit easy. Cell phone games sell like mad in Japan. It's a quick buck and Square will do this to fund their bigger games.

I don't know about the rest of ya'll, but my love for Square Enix is dwindling as I get older..

My love for SE started dwindling just before Squaresoft merged but once they were merged omg. Since I've lost almost all faith in them short of remakes...

@Kasz216:

Maybe you should check out Soul Nomad and the World Eaters on PS2. I haven't played it myself, but it seems to have a similar style to the Ogre Battle series.
