He hacked the PS3, thereby breaching Sony's copyright laws. And when he got arrested, he decided to upload all of his material so that his followers could continue his work. And your sarcasm is unappreciated.

Sony gave them the tools to do this by enabling Linux open source through firmware, he just used it to enable a mode that isn't publicly available, sorry but downgrading your PS3 to basically debug mode is not illegal. Please know what you are talking about before posting it.

Sony's copyright laws? lol

So you are saying that you aren't allowed to hack your own system?

Nope Sony just overreacted because he posted up all the scripting information so you can downgrade to an early firmware which allowed users to enter service(debug) mode, but the fact is that they caused this with their own firmware upgrade, he just found a way to exploit it and then they sue and arrest him.. Why because he voided his system warranty, what a crock.

Wow, is there something seriously wrong with you? Legal? Assaulting people's rights? The only people they supposedly "assaulted" are the two hackers. And this IS dealing with piracy. They are protecting their product. The software on the console is licensed. I reiterate, YOU DO NOT OWN THE OPERATING SYSTEM. So modifying it in any way shape or form, especially in a way that completely opens the door to piracy, is illegal. And the only people harassing customers are the hackers who just took down PSN when supposedly asserting our rights. Really, where do they make idiots like yourself?

You own your copy of the operating system, not the rights to redistribute it, certainly, but you own your copy, and they can't take that away from you. Services available through the operating system like PSN certainly, but the OS is part and parcel with the device that you paid for and is legally yours, and you are allowed to back it up or modify as you see fit for your own personal purposes, and there's nothing wrong with distributing the information for how to do so so that others may do the same

Piracy comes into the picture? Sure, deal with the pirates, but don't attack the innocents because you can't stop the piracy or fix your own online service.

Bullying is a good term for it. When you can't fix your own problems, take it out on someone else, preferably someone too small or weak to fight back.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

They own the software, you own the hardware. And if you're following this stuff closely, shouldn't you know this already? Or are you just utterly failing at being clever? Your comments suggest the latter.

If you were following it you would know that Geohot is being sued for breaking DMCA by distributing the hack. The only thing that Graf did was talk about hacking the PS3, that led his house to be raided, which then ended with his research being leaked.

Now tell my what exactly Graf did wrong.

And no, read Khan's response

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Just keep referring to my previous responses. I'm not answering the same questions and pointing out flaws in the same points again and again. Sorry, I'm out of here. Please, you take up the mantle of expert if you're so inclined.
