Forums - General - Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance

I must say, after watching Evangalion 2.22, I have an even greater respect for anime. Now I have seen the entire series of the Neon Genesis Evangelion and End of Evangelion before, but this Rebuild series by far blows it away in storytelling and beauty.

The rebuild completely redoes the storyline, and is an almost complete departure from NGE. The only thing I can say is that truly, it is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Each character is by far more likeable, have way more depth, and you actually can feel like you are seeing the story from Shinji's eyes. You can actually feel his pain and agony. It is the first time in a while that I can say I was truly pulled in to an anime and felt it touch me like this has.

We also get to see Eva Unit 05, 08, and several angels including #3 and #8 for the first time.

I actually will say that waiting for Rebuild of Evangelion 3 and 4 to be released will actually be painful due to the fact I want and almost need to know how this retelling ends because it will be nagging me in the back of my mind till its all over.

I completely recommend everyone to watch Evangelion: You Are (Not) Alone, and Evangelion: You Can (Not) Advance. They are truly memorable and a must see.

So you say it's quite different from the original series... I guess I'll have to rent the first 2 parts, then!

oh, they are completely changed from what it was. The first one acts like its all the same, but many things are different, then the second one just totally gets off the bus and takes the space shuttle into new orbits of greatness.

I certainly didn't expect that. I thought they just cut the original series into movies and left out unnecessary stuff.

But if there are so many changes I have to watch them! I already added them to my rental list.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll pick it up. Though I'll pick it up in 2014 probably as I don't like watching shows and things until they're done. Unless each movie is a good stopping point w/o cliffhangers.

I enjoyed the originals. Not my favorite, or close to my favorite. But one of the better Anime I've seen none the less.

I remember reading about it. And seeing that they are released as movies or something. I was just (possibly) wrongfully assuming it was like the ghost in the shell compilations. Where it was a condensed and poor version of a great TV show.

Man, now I'm seriously contemplating watching this. The original EVA series left me #@%@%#@ confused. REALLY confused, and since lots of people love it so much, I might as well give it another shot.

The first one really isnt that massive of a cliffhanger, but the second ends at the point of near third impact, so thats kind of important.

And as I stated this is not a simple compilation. Its a complete rewrite with epic levels of awesome.

I suggest getting each now. They are worth it, and give you a reason to get the next upon release instead of forgetting about the series completely till they are in the $5 bin or something. There is a reason that in Japan alone 2.22 in theaters made 42 million dollars, and had 800,000 preorders between the DVD and Blu-ray versions. Its just that damn good.

The original had that issue since there was a ton of backstory that was never explained. This fixes all that, and gives a truly enjoyable experience.

Also this is the opening (minus in Japanese and includes a bit of deleted scene in this video). Skip to 1:42 for actual start of the scene without extra part. And dont watch if you dont want to spoil this 2 hour movie of awesome.

Will have to go with that, hehe.

And yeah, whenever they were talking stuff that is not usual discussion etc, I had to piece together whatever little info I had of the backstory while listening to them. That really ruined it.
