Forums - General - Does anyone just have a regular home phone anymore?

I do. I also have a cellphone but it uses prepaid cards and if  friends/family call it cause im not a home it better be important. Its for emergencies only.

In NZ the costs for calling using cellphones are ridiculously high, people pretty much only ever use cellphones for texting. So almost everybody has a landline.

cell phones cause brain cancer.   and i like my brain too much.

I don't have a landline, but I still have an old timey phone (looks like an old payphone) hanging in the kitchen, just cause I like the looks of it, and I miss having a landline like when I grew up. I just really don't have a need for one.

I rarely use landline phones but they're useful for instance when your friend isn't picking up his fucking cellphone and you have to call to his house and his mom picks up.

Yes. It's really dumb NOT to have a landline. They don't need electricity, so when a natural disaster strikes they still work, while the other ones end up dead and useless.

What natural disaster is going to take the grid out, but not the telephone network?

As for the O/P, many people still have a landline for Internet connections... BT offer up to 20mb/s on some landline networks (granted, upgrades need to be made to the network... my home town can only receieve 8mb/s through landline), for people who do not live in cable areas (cable is not as widely available in the UK as it is in the US, due to consumers preferring their television services provided through satellite).

Nope. Only cellular. Dropped that $30 bill years ago.

I don't know anyone with a home phone anymore.
