Forums - Gaming - Something I noticed in gamestop.(important)

Well when I was going to buy THE ORANGE BOX for the ps3, I noticed alot of girls in gamestop. About 4 dudes, and 7 chicks.

They werent buying little kiddie girly games either. One bought a psp, another bought call of duty 4 for the X360.

They were freakin Hot too. One bought a ds game dunno what it was either. They were around the age of 13-16. Looks like its not just us guys that are considered hardcore gamers anymore.

Yeah, plenty of girls like hardcore games. They just don't spend nearly the time or money on them that their male counterparts do. We have a copy of Call of Duty 3 for the Wii in this apartment and neither I nor my roommate have or will play it. It's a game my roommate's girlfriend wanted.

Really, it's not a big deal, nor is it really all that new of a thing...  heck, my mom has played every console Zelda game and at least half of the Resident Evil series (4 is her favorite).  Beign female doesn't mean you can't like complicated games.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Time for that comic again?

On topic, I know several girls at my school who play "shooter" video games. It's not exactly unusual, as has been pointed out. There's little biological basis: previously it may have been social factors.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Eh, duh? Girls play all sorts of gory hardcore games. It's just they rarely mention it because a lot of guys end up being dicks about it because it offends their masculinity or something. It's like how a lot of gamers always claim they wish they could find a girl who plays videogames... alteast they say that until they find a girl that blows them away in a game of Halo. Then they start getting pissy about it. If you show your not a dick like that though, then you can play plenty of video games with girls. Heck if you arn't a competitive dick it's fairly easy to get a girl into gaming who doesn't even play. By using regular games. Not "Girly games" which honesly a lot of girls just find condescending.

Women/Girls play (pretty much) every type of game that Men/Boys do, but (on average) they tend to favour different genres than men/boys do ... Many games made by Nintendo have had a userbase made up by more than 50% women, where as a game like Halo/Call of Duty will probably have (as a guestimate) 15% Women/girls

Don't forget a lot of them were probably buying Xmas gifts for their boyfriends.

True. I asked my girlfriend to get me disgaea for Christmas.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I don't think there's any doubt that games like CoD4 heavily lean towards the male demographic. That doesn't mean that SOME girls don't play -- there are some -- but I wouldn't be surprised it if it were 85/15 male/female. Given that there are over 3 million people now with either the 360 or PS3 version of CoD4, that's actually almost half a million girls playing COD4... but it's still heavily disproportionate.

This is a notion I want to dispel because it's a core disconnect between hardcore gamers and reality. In general, it's a common failing in young males -- we tend to believe that everyone would like what we like if they just got it. Some people think that everyone would love Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, Halo, and Metal Gear if they just sat down and played it, if they just understood it; that simply is.not.true. Lots of people honestly, genuinely, and totally lack interest in these games, including most girls, and in most cases including me. For example, I remember Leo-J just constantly telling me to play Kingdom Hearts once I got a PS3, and he kept persisting even when I made it clear repeatedly that I don't like RPGs. It's just unfathomable to some that people don't like this crap; surely, they just haven't tried the right game. Surely they just weren't given enough time with the game, or the graphics aren't good enough, or something.

No. Stop. By and large, girls don't like blowing stuff up, okay? Of course there are exceptions, but the general rule is never going to change. Here's a simple reversal of the question: can you ever imagine playing with dolls? Some guys do, but I bet most of us here can confidently say that we'd never have any interest in it. Now imagine that girls feel the same way about FPS/RPG/blowemup/sliceemup games. Just try to imagine that people honestly, genuinely, really, absolutely and entirely do not like the games that you like. It isn't because they haven't tried it, it isn't because they don't "get it," and it isn't because they're too stupid to understand complex games; they just do not like what you like, any more than you like dolls or playing crochet.
