Is software really down 81% year on year for the first 3 months, i mean i can understand hardware being down, but surely software shouldnt be down as there are more people with consoles buying software than there were this time last year.

It's comparing the full year 2010 to the first three months in 2011.  Notice that hardware is also down by similar amounts.

Yeah the graph isn't so explicit on what the numbers mean.  The chart isn't YoY sales for the week, it's YoY changes YTD.  So, through this week (3 months worth) in 2011 vs. all of 2010.   So, you should expect lots of negative percentages there until Autumn.

Hmm i declare the chart a bit poo then, surely a YTD chart would be much more usefull so we can see if the industry is in decline or on the increase.

I mean if i compared this months wage, to last years entire salary, im not sure why that would be usefull

Those KZ3 sales are probably just bundle sales.

Still amazed how close Wii is to the others...maybe the advertising is really making a difference? Or maybe this apparant 'Kinect' effect has worn off

Killzone 3 continues to impress me here! It's staying comfortably above KZ2 in the region and should even out with it in WW numbers here soon.

The shift in multiplayer types coupled with marketing has really paid off.

That's it's fifth week over 100,000k WW. To be honest when I saw the opening week sales I seriously doubted that this would be the case.

The marketing could have been better regarding the bundles. Only a couple days back when I went to pick up a new controller someone bought a PS3 and the game seperately.

I didn't even think anything of it till now - now that I am aware of the bundle.

It wasn't even advertised in the store.

I do think that the data the graph is trying to represent (comparing this year to last year) is a worthy one, but the format isn't so great.  Giving a sales YTD 2011 vs YTD 2010 would be better but maybe that info is hard to get (I have no idea, I wouldn't think so though).

Nope.

People tend to make a whole lot of whooha about the YoY decreases but this not changing the advantage. It's just the others were so far behind the wii, now that the wii is selling about the same as the HD consoles, it looks "bad".

All this YOY comparision stuff shows rather than falling off the back of the wagon ( Iwill admit it, I thought it would have fallen ), the wii is maintaining it's advantage and the others aren't making any major significant gains.

And without any games being released ... how do they do that?

Impressive to see this neck and neck race, I'm wondering what's keeping the Wii in the race right now, without a big hitter in recent releases. Kinda bodes poorly to light a fire under Nintendo's ass to release some big games or make any other moves. They can sit around and just watch their savings account rise and rise.

Indeed

Also, the fact they can stay up there is because it's well-advertised, got plenty of 'hardcore' gamers migrating over to it now, lots of great evergreen titles etc. At least, that's what I think...
