Half-Life2 on the Wii. Of course why don't they port Crysis.
.
People get real. Companies do not seem to think that its worthwile to port games that were designed with PC/360/PS3 hardware requirements in mind to the Wii. And why should they?
They would have to completely throw away textures/Vertex-meshes the complete art-work and redo them. This is not a simple downsampling. Besides I think it is a crime against a master-piece to play Half-Life2 in SD. Yes you can do that on 360/PS3 also but you shouldn't. Just as a disclaimer I have no problem with DS but games have to be designed for it.
Could they port HL2 to the Wii? Of course. But that doesn't make it a good idea. If Valve wants to develop Wii games they will make a new game.
| DMeisterJ said: @ Zucas Yeah, it is possible, no doubt. I was jus worried about the Wii's online and how Valve would handle it, considering the third-party Wii multiplayer games that are out there. I really only wanted to know why OP wanted it on the Wii and you can have it on the PC, PS3, or XBOX 360. |
Oh I wasn't responding to anyone specific just speaking my mind.
Personaly though I was only hoping they'd port Portal and Half Life 2 over. Ya know Team Fortress 2 is nice, but well not as nice as those 2.
But yes online could be a problem, but the great thing about Wii online is its not forced. You don't have to use friend codes or any strict things from Nintendo. Can use any setup you want. A little more work but also a little more creative freedom. I blame most of the bad online games on Wii against the developers, including Nintendo themselves, because the creative freedom given, they could easily make an amazing online game.
And I guess people, like myself want it, because Wii needs some more good FPS and online games. And actually I've never even played HL2 so this would be the first if it came over.

Someday like most people you'll learn that companies work by the dollar, not the mind. Things are done in businesses to obtain a green outcome. Thus why EA hasn't had at least another one of their devs other than Valve work on porting it is surprising, as the monetary outcome that could come of it would be pretty high. Probably goes back to the stereotype that Wii gamers don't by mature games.
@Kyros
I know for certain crysis medium quality end can run on the playstation 3 and xbox 360. Crytek is just a pc company and dont make console games. Look at soldier of fortune, that game looks pretty close to crysis in my eyes.

The xbox 1 got dumbed down ports of hl2, farcry and doom 3,
and some consider the wii to be technically on par with the xbox.
So it's not totally unrealistic!
p.s.
I don't believe it either.
"Someday like most people you'll learn that companies work by the dollar, not the mind"
I do know that, but until now companies haven't made huge dollars by porting 360/PS3 games to the Wii, have they (yes RE4 was successful but it was a Gamecube game and a budget title).
If companies thought that it was a) relatively easy and b) would bring them dollars we would see dozens of ported 360/PS3 games at least announced for the Wii. Until now no beep. Yes it has been only a year but in this time a good number of PS3 and 360 exclusives has gone multiplatform. But only between the two.
Bottomline: I think most game developers seem to think their chances are higher to make money from the Wii by developing specific Wii titles. If they are correct is another matter but I do not think that they are idiots.
(Perhaps I am wrong and a dozen Wii ports of PS3/360 games are announced in the next months but I doubt it)
Yeah, I think the thing is that Valve doesn't see the port being relatively easy, or bringing in much money, or else we would have seen a Wii port.
Kyros said: Have there been ANY ports like that? There have been multiplatform games, but those tended to be lackluster overall (splinter cell conviction). We haven't seen someone make a serious effort to port a major 360/PS3 title to the Wii, and until someone does, we don't really know whether or not the money is worth it. |
That does apply to those insisting ports will make money, but it does not excuse those acting at though it's already been proven a port isn't worth it. It has not been proven, so claiming it's not worth it is just a lie at this moment.
