Personally I think 16 is even too young. If your not mature enough to vote, drink or view porn then your to young to be having sex. But here in Canada the police don't tend to act if the two individuals are around the same age. I've heard and read stories about under age girls sleeping with under age guys it's not like the police are going to arrest the two children for having sex.

As Rath said if a 30 year old slept with a 12 year old their would be charges in most countries including Canada. But if a 12 year old and a 13 year old had sex their wouldn't be any charges. But the age of consent should be 18 in my opinion.

I disagree. In the past people would get married at that age (or even before that). The whole "you need to be 18 to have sex" thing is a modern concept.

I don't think Canada used to have an age of concent. Up until the 1900's, prior to that I think it was deemed a family issue. I don't think Canada has ever worried about increasing population, we always just brought in more europeans and american's to raise population. Just like we do with immigrants today!

It's actually because life expectency has grown, and people don't have to get married as early as before.

Ya know I will stand here and agree that I find it messed up, but if you are born and raised in a different country/culture this is normal and there is nothing wrong about it. There things in every country/culture that woudl freak us all out.

True that. It took me a while to get used to the me-myself-and-I Western culture and the lack of honour code.

True that. It took me a while to get used to the me-myself-and-I Western culture and the lack of honour code.
