I don't know, but it doesn't matter. Calling it Xbox 360 was as dumb of a move by Microsoft as it would be of Nintendo to sell their next console to hardcore gamers by calling it the Wii 2. |
Hmmm good point.

Launching without the hard drive. <- this option gave the 360 a much cheaper version and then they sold a hdd seperately which then gave them another source of revenue Mismanagement of first-party developers <- the first-party seems to be fine imo as their 3rd party is fairly strong Lack of policying on Xbox Live <- eh? No controller option for Kinect <- disagree unlike the wii and move which you have to buy a fair few accessories to play properly kinect is fine out of the box Choosing DVD-9 <- this isnt an issue No Killer Instinct relaese from Rare <- thats not a 360 issue that is a developers decision No Web browser <- its meant to be family friendly and browser would be against that. No wi-fi built in till 2010 <- G was around at that stage and N was also around but too expensive, in fact ps3 has the G and for some reason they didnt upgrade it with the slim But yes RROD is a rather big problem

All the racial slurs and foul languages. I cannot allow my kids to be part of it. And the report system is not working.
Playing CODMW2 yesterday, I was teamed up with NiggeRBeater.
I'd say no mandatory hard drive. Sure it saves money, and gives another revenue stream, but they always could have included a 20GB. A 20GB drive is like 5 dollars at manufacturing level.
A HDD with an option to upgrade for more money would have meant that games could take advantage of sotring data, resulting in better performing games, and other desirable effects.

@aussiegecko Wii had wifi and managed not to be expensive and PSP had it long before 360. how do you explain that

1. What you said was true, but it limited developers. Developers still complain about it. Games perform better when come content is installed on the HDD. The arcade was brilliant for a basic starter system for new gamers, but from a developers standpoint its a mistake.
2. Ill agree with you. Sony has done just as bad with third party support honestly at the beginning.
3. I think he means policing, which they do well.
4. A controller or object of some form would help in some genres. And RTSs will not work at all with or without a controller for Kinect.
5. DVD-9 is fine enough, HD-DVD would have been better, but an HDD solves this issue.
6 & 7. I agree with you on both.
8. Built in G wifi would have been smart. I mean the internal components were dirt cheap then. A motherboard with g-wifi was like $40. But the does PS3 supports 3rd party wireless adapters, so the PS3 can become N with a netgear adapter. I think Microsoft should open-up a bit here.
9. obviously, do we have to discuss the obvious now? It was fixed, problem solved.

Was I any good?
To me their number one mistake by far is the lack of 1st party support. While they netted a few good 3rd party exclusives the 3rd party exclusive on the PS3 are a lot more interesting, and the PS3's 1st party support destroys the 360's. I haven't used the 360 since getting a PS3, and at this point it's not even hooked up because anything I'd want for it is on PS3 also. They need to create incentive for people to be interested in their next generation of hardware, and that's not going to be easy if they rely on 3rd parties to carry them.
Even if all 3 Gears games are exclusive, what happens when Epic begins building GoW4 for the next gen? Do they stay exclusive when Sony is gaining ground on every advantage that the 360 had? Probably not. But if MS had more than Halo, Fable, and whatever Rare wants to crap out to bring to the table it wouldn't even matter.
Without a real draw to the system other than momentum (which is what they have relied on for the last few years), there's no real reason to buy their next piece of hardware. And since their current lack of 1st party support means several genres are under represented on their system, that draw just isn't there. Once they start providing IPs that are theirs and theirs alone that appeal to a broader audience they can call themselves true contenders next gen, but right now they survive on having more active online players (that pay to play) and the fact that they were first out of the gate. Some people may buy it for the exclusives they have now, but with so many being 3rd party they really do only have them right now.
You do not have the right to never be offended.

oh ho ho, you bastard
OT, @Coca, they do police it, with such userbase though it takes a while to notice slips such as that, when they are noticed they are eliminated swiftly. I'd say overall the main issue was the release of fault hardware that took a few years to correct, but there are still faulty consoles floating around to this day. I can understand the launch without wireless, otherwise that would have knocked up the cost of the console for those who'd wish to use ethernet cable and leave wireless alone, it'd be nice to have one, but to be fair console can be played without one.
I think missing out on Bioware may have been a bad move, ME is an awesome franchise, although DA2 was met with mixed responses, on a spectrum from utter shit to brilliance. If anything it was an OK business decision, for fans it may be annoying but for them it's all about cutting profit, the games are still coming to 360, and that's where they majorly sell anyway. Buying studios straight off is probably much more expensive than building them from ground up, chances are they're already hiring some of the staff from Bizzare, besides if some of the Bioware did not want to work for MS they can just up and leave, leaving the studio void, what's the point of buying something that has altered since you put the bid in, the case of Rare springs up.
Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

i had lots of issues with the hardware, it just seemed second rate. when i was deciding which console to buy i had a few hardware problems; RROD, no standard wifi, or hdd, ande lastly, the controller not having a rechareable battery.
other than that i didnt have any reason to choose ps3 as my main console, i really didnt know what kind of games to expect from either console when i was deciding, but now looking back, im glad i went with sony, they ended up with a lot more support for the types of games that i enjoy
