(BTW, 1080p is here to stay, I know, I know... but you gotta admit that in 2-3 years 1080p isn't going to look so impressive if games are being cranked out at these insane resolutions...)

Yes, we're still on 480 and generally won't be much higher than that for years...especially with TV broadcasting seeing as Digital does not mean HD as most of the general public seem to think.

I don't know how people think HD will matter so much in a few years when the standard switches over to digital from analog.

All that's gonna happen is people will keep their old sets and digital signal converters will be sold; the rest will get digital TV compatible sets.

None of this means 1080psi or whatever all that mess means. They are separate things.

Nothing to admit really. All this talk of numbers is pure nonsense.

2560x1600 won't look any better if your TV is unable to reproduce it,and that include not being big enough to see a difference.

TV at or under 40" can't even display these natively, and bandwidth is an issue for broadcast already.

Cables quality are a problem too to reproduce 1080p, so I wouldn't say 1080p is last-gen.

Compression is a problem too.

HD will be great and watching Blu-Ray or HDDVD will be brilliant on a HDTV, but broadcasting HD will be a long time away.

There is no point looking at higher resolutions than 1080p unless you are viewing it on a 60"+ LCD as at the moment you cannot plainly see the difference between 720p and 1080p in a screen less than 40" or 37".  The same would apply to higher resolutions. See below:

HD 720p - Up to 37"

HD 1080p - 37" upwards.

So what size of screen would you need to view 1600, 60" or higher.

I would reccomend over 25meters (82feet for those of you who think I typod) for those resolutions.
