3DS doesn't cost £230 anymore, if you're paying over £200 then the retailers are trying to rip you off. Since the DSi retailed for £150 and you can get the 3DS for around £187 I see no problem here. Plus I heard that Tesco are doing it for £175 at midnight, I'm not sure on that though.

Wow. That's a bigger profit margin than for Wii currently!

R&D and Licenses?

Never comapre BOM costs to retail prices.  BOM's don't include R&D, manufacturing, wharehousing, salaries, utilities, transportation, licenses, marketing, etc...

THe difference is Apple does this with a product that is not unique. i.e. their computers are no different than the hundreds of other PCs and with that you can get a Windows or Linux based PC for far less money that has far better hardware.

3DS is unique. It only has one other competitor and that item is still significantly different. If 10 other manufacturers put out 3D enabled portables with similar or better capabilities than the 3DS and they were $100 cheaper, then I would cry foul as well.

I think someone needs to update the 'it prints money!' gif for the 3DS

It is not their fault they know how to make stuff cheap and at very high quality at the same time. Stuff that don’t break after a year

so you do not have to buy another one the next year like some other companies make you do ;)

Wow that's awesome for Nintendo, and imagine the production prices going down over the next year!

They can easily drop the price of the 3DS or expand on it with newer versions and still make boat loads of money. Good for them.
