Why would Nintendo drop the Wii name in it's next console considering how successful the brand name is?

You could ask the same think about the Gameboy Name ...

Changing a name can actually be a very good thing because it creates a new blank slate in people's minds when they think of your product; naming your system the Playstation 3 (PS3) means that everyone has preconceptions (good and bad) about what your product is and who it is for long before they ever see it.

True but I suspect part of the name change for the DS was to help consumers avoid confusion with the Gameboy Advance and especially so that Nintendo could distance the product from the Gameboy lineup if it turned out to be a failure since it was a significant departure from the Gameboy design.

The Wii on the other hand is the successor to a console that was losing marketshare so it was obvious they wouldn't call it something like the Super Gamecube for example.  Also the Wii name is being heavily promoted to non-gamers so if Nintendo were to use another name with it's next console it would literally be starting back at square one with those consumers who likely don't follow videogame news.  Unless they plan on making a significant departure with their next console (which is doubtful) it really wouldn't make sense not to capitalize on the Wii name's success.

It won't be Wii, but it will be something that signals their intent to make gaming for everyone, it may well be another variant of a pronoun

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

In one or two gens the entire system will clip to your wrist and you'll play by moving your arms and hands without any controller whatsoever

Pachter said that, he said a Wii HD would be out in 2009, not going to happen, just like Pachter's other predictions

they will all stay near the 5-6 year life spam but i think MS will release theirs first

i remember hearing somewhere that photo-realism wasnt possible yet. That at the rate consoles are evolving (graphic-wise) it'll take close to 2020-ish. Maybe a little more.

But i do hope the next Wii incorporates some of that Wii-vision thing (VR headset)--it was stellar!

And i would see M$ releasing their console first. Thought things didnt go well or as planned (360's launch) you can't say it didnt help them in the long run. They will most likely try again with well-made units (RROD!) and a more ample amount of units. And i can expect Sony to be even more competitive next-gen, hoping to reclaim its crown, though of course the crown will now belong to Nintendo once again, who will, in my own sole opinion, maintain its lead.

 What do yall think????

God From the Machine

I say all will try to long their lifetime the farthest they can, to much investments on these three machines, but if I take a guess will have to be Sony, Microsoft wouldn't want to launch that early after what happen to the Xbox

I think MS will be first, and Sony either second or third depending how well the 10 year plan is.
