Forums - Sony - Advice? To Upgrade or not?

Hi All,

I currently have an "80GB MGS4 Bundle" PS3 (yes, with PS2 backwards compatiblity).  I've upgraded the HDD to 320 GB and everything works well.  The PS3 can get a little loud for my tastes (my hearing is pretty sensitive) and I was contemplating picking up a 320GB Move Bundle for $350 U.S. and sell my current system + the "move bundle" that comes with the new 320GB slim since I have no need for 2 sets of PS Move equipment.

I currently have a few PS2 games, most of which I haven't played in years and most of which have "HD remakes available or becoming available".  My PS2 games are the DMC series (all 3), MGS series (both for PS2), RE:Code Veronica X, RE4, FF12, Tomb Raider legend and GoW 1 + 2.  The Tomb Raiders and GoW I can buy the collections if I feel like playing again and the REs seem to be coming out with an HD remake too.

So my questions to the community are:

1.  Anyone know if the new slims are much quieter than the old fats?

2.  Anyone have a random guess on how much I could get for my 80GB MGS4 PS2 BC PS3?  I has never YLoD'd or been reflowed or anything.

3.  How much would the move + camera + sports champions go for from the 320 GB Move Bundle if I bought that?

4.  What would you guys do?

PS2 BC isn't that huge of a thing to me as I rarely play PS2 games and I would argue that a quietly running system is more important to me than PS2 BC but at the same time if I will lose $100+ dollars on this "exchange" then it might not even be worth it for me then.  The noise isn't that loud, but I would like for it to be quieter.

Thanks for all of your input in advance.

1. Slims are much quieter than fats in my experience with them.

2. I'm going to assume you will get 150-200 dollars on eBay for a MGS4 B/C PS3.

3.  If you were to sell them new you could probably get 130ish range.

4.  I own the MGS4 B/C PS3 as well and it's still kicking fine. I notice the sound as well but it isn't that much of an issue to me anymore. Honestly I just say you keep it and replace it god forbid it YLODs. If it is that big of an issue, just pick up a PS2 and get your Slim.

the slims are far quieter in that they dont make an sound. But be prepared to say farwell to the touch sensitive on and eject disk buttons

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I would agree with everything you say except number 3,  the Sports Champions bundles(Camera, Game, PS Move) brand new are less than $100.  So at best I think he could only get $75.

How loud is ur PS3? Cause my 40gig (recently upgraded to 500gig) PS3 isnt that loud and you can barely hear it. My freinds PS3 sounds just like mine but after about 1-2hr of play goes nuts and the fan goes crazy and goes SUPER LOUD i mean like extremely loud like if you herd it ud go wtf is that thing gona explode it goes about x5 times louder then mine. So does yours go super loud? cause if it does i would want to replace it

Yeah it can get pretty loud after a few hours of watching bluray/playing.  I have it in a somewhat tight space.  I have the recommended 4" around it, but that's about it.

Most of the time when I'm playing games, etc. the loudness doens't bother me much.  When I'm watching movies the loudness is super irritating.

From looking on ebay and such, I've seen some CECHE01s with reflows/replaced bluray drives go for about $200 and I'd assume I could get $80-ish maybe for the move camera SC.  So, I would think I could get maybe $300 tops, more likely $275 for everything.

So is the potential quietness (not even sure if it will be quieter) worth the effort and $80-$100 to me....hrm.

I guess an alternative is I can open up my PS3 and try to clean out any dust but I don't know if any is in there and that would lower the resell value (having the seal broken).
