Forums - Gaming - Have you ever bought a system more than once?

thetonestarr said:

Many gamers out there have supported their hobby to the point of purchasing their loved systems two or three... or more times.

Let's talk about it. Tell about the systems you've repurchased, and tell why.

First, I've bought three N64s. The first one, we got when the N64 launched. The second one, sometime around '01 or '02, we got when the original one died. The third, I purchased for myself when I knew I was moving out soon and wanted to have an N64 for myself, since the other one was my family's.

Second, I've purchased two GameBoy Advances (although I've owned three... yay for "finder's keepers" hahaha). The first one, I purchased shortly after the GBA's launch. The second, I purchased after I found my GBA:SP so I could trade between my Pokémon games, because the original GBA had been lost.

Third, I've purchased two Wii's. I got the Wii when it launched, and my family fell in love. However, again, I was moving out. This time, though, the Wii was already actually mine, so it was going with me. But I owed my father a respectable amount of money, and since they'd been trying to find a Wii for quite some time, I located one on eBay at a bargain price (see: paid less than I would have if I bought it in-store), and I paid them back in that manner.

Fourth, I've purchased four (and counting!) DS Lites. Originally, I bought mine shortly after the Lite launched. My wife really liked it, and I got sick of sharing it with her, so I bought her one too haha. Then, recently, I've begun taking both of them with me to work for downtime (some days I have so much downtime that I actually drain the battery on one entirely, and some days I play with friends at work to pass the time more quickly). So, I went to purchase an extra one (and ended up getting two because the price was right). I've been seeing absolutely magnificent deals for them, so I'm currently attempting to acquire a few more (one to give to my 13-yr-old little brother for his 14th birthday, one to sell to another little brother (18) since he lost his, one to sell to one of my friends because he'd love to get a DS, but his wife won't let him at the price they sell for typically).

So, what have you bought twice? Three times? More? Why?

So you've found a Gameboy Advance, and you lost a Gameboy Advance... Hey, maybe you found your own Gameboy Advance... Well that wasn't too advanced...

Man, oh, man, do I have a story for you guys!

My very first console was a Super Nintendo. It was given to me when I was very young. It lasted for many years, until this plastic piece on the back broke, where the AC adapter plugs into, and although it could still play games, you constantly had to wiggle the AC adapter to get the picture on the TV to keep working, so I sold it on eBay, and found another one at the pawn shop. Later, as I started to become a serious console collector, I sold it again, because it was in very bad condition, and I bought another one. Except, the new one I bought was missing the lock-in-mechanism, and felt very cheap, so I sold it, and finally bought a "perfect" one.

A Nintendo 64 was also given to me, and it lasted many years. But, one day, it got rained on, so I had to go to the store, and buy another one. That was pretty much the end of that.

A Playstation was also given to me, but I sold it after I got my Playstation 2. When I became a serious collector again, I wanted the original Playstation again, so I bought one at the pawn shop. Except, it was in pretty bad shape, so I sold it after I found a mint one at a video game store.

I bought a Dreamcast on eBay, but I sold it, because it came in bad condition, so I bought it again on eBay, except I got it brand new, to make sure it came in good form.

I bought an Xbox, which got damaged after I moved, so I sold it, and bought another one.

I bought a Gamecube, which got severely beaten up over the years, so I sold it, and bought a brand new Platinum one. The purple Gamecube was too childish anyways.

I bought a Nintendo, but it wasn't working, so I exchanged it for another one, which was in bad shape, so I sold it, and bought another one in mint condition.

I bought a Gameboy on eBay, which came in bad condition, so I sold it, and bought another one on eBay, in mint condition.

A Gameboy Color was given to me, but I sold it on eBay, and bought a Gameboy Advance SP, but later on, I wanted to collect all the Gameboy handhelds, so I bought it again on eBay, in mint condition.

I bought a Playstation Portable, but I had to exchange it a number of times, because of dead pixels.

I bought an Atari 2600, which later broke, so I bought another one.

I bought two Philips CDi consoles, resold one, and made $90.

Well, that's pretty much it. I break even when I sell, and rebuy a console, but it can still be a hastle sometimes.

Well, after all of that, I now own all the consoles, in mint condition. It was fun, kind of pricey, but the funny thing is, I paid retail for my Playstation 3, and it cost more than half of my other consoles.

Alex, sounds like you'd almost be better off running your own gaming pawn shop. lol

I still have an Odessey 2000 from the late 70s that still works (it turns on anyway. it's battery powered if you can believe that).

The Atari 2600 still works.

I sold the NES along with the games when the 16bit generation came out (never should have done that).

One original GameBoy which was later sold.

I bought 2 Sega Genesis. Sold the original one and then bought another one for reasons I've long since forgotten. It should still work.

Only bought one SNES, which never failed.

Bought a TurboGrafx-16 with the CD drive, sold it and bought a Japanese market PC Engine Duo, which still works.

Bought one N64 which saw minimal usage past Ocarina of Time (almost worth it just for that game alone). Even upgraded the RAM for Rogue Squadron.

Bought an original Playstation which saw so much usage, the drive wore out (upside down play extended its life). Then bought a second new one from a shop that chipped all their inventory. Then bought another one in Japan while on a business trip. Then bought a PSOne when they came out. Technically, only the first one crapped out on me.

Bought one original PS2 which has soldiered on flawlessly for about 7 years, never to be replaced.

Two Game Boy Advances because I liked the original so much I wanted a back up in case I lost it.

Stopped gaming due to work/changing interests.

Then bought a PS3, Wii, 360 and DS in the span of less than a year.

I have purchased 12 DS systems. 6 original style (3 for me, 3 for family) then replaced all 6 with DSLites, I also have 52 games on DS. I play 4-6hrs a day miniumum on my DS's.

Two Dreamcasts (the second was just so cheap!).

Traded in GBA for SP.

Bought a second DS when the Lite was released.

Bought a slim PS2, gave the original away.

I think that is all.

I had a PSP Phat, then bought a slim. I had a PS2 phat, then bought a slimline. I had a PS1 phat, then bought a slim. I plan on buying a PS3 phat, then a slim also. see the trend?

Quality for Life

I think im one of the only people lucky enough to be left with my original PS2 (Owned for about 5-6 years).

Ive only ever rebought a SNES and dreamcast because my dad gave them away when we moved into a smaller house but I wanted them again when I moved out on my own so I got them off ebay. (Snes, a controller and 5 games for £35! Bargain!)

Thats about it, I cant remember rebuying any others.
