Forums - Gaming - CGI's HYPE Series: Deus Ex Human Revolution

Throughout my whole gaming career I've tried to get the average gamer to buy games like this instead of mainstream games like COD etc.

My biggest success was convincing 2 people to buy a Gamecube back in the day. One of them was relatively happy, but would have probably enjoyed the PS2 more. The other was SO immersed in Starfox and Zelda that it gave me boundless joy.

My latest challenge is to convince people that MW2 and Black Ops isn't that great. A recent success was getting a X360 gamer to buy Bayonetta instead of Black Ops. Another guy also got Bayonetta on my recommendation.

Anyways, back on topic... Even if I cannot afford to buy this game due to having WAY too many other games to play (we'll still see about that though), then I will be directing as many people as possible in this direction.

I have played and loved Deus Ex, and I am confident that it'll be a significant leap over standard FPS games.

I am a great fan of the First Person perspective. Deus Ex is one of those games that really brings you into the world, it's a special feeling. I played Thief before MGS4 (the only one I played of the MG games), and the stealth of MGS seams calculated, mechanic, detached while the stealth in Thief is more of an impression, organic, personal. It was the same in Deus Ex, although the stealth mechanics is not at the level of Theif. I am not impressed with the mix of First Person and Third Person they are trying and the way it works, the tranzitions come across as delayed, artificial, disruptive.

Also, is there no way to not kill (in an exagerated fasion), but to disable a guard in hand to hand (well, hand to back :P )?

Here's hoping that on normal difficulty settings the routes are not highlighted and that the disruptive transitions to/from third person perspective can be disabled or that in the final build they are perfectly smooth.

I will get on the hype train, but I will not man it.

You can choose whether you want to kill an opponent or use a non-lethal takedown when you sneak up on them. Depending on which you choose, a short cut-scene type of sequence will play out.

Also, I really hope they haven't completely done away with the lighting based stealth mechanic. I like the cover system but I loved hiding in the shadows.

I'm guessing you won't even be looking at buy either of the console versions?

No! lol. Deus Ex is purely for my PC (assuming it will run it... which it should but I'm planning to buy a new one for ESV: Skyrim anyway!). Even my desktop wallpaper is Deus Ex based.

Part of the reason I want it on PC though is because I really enjoyed some of the single player mods. I was amazed at what people managed to produce. The Nameless mod for one was quite funny because it was based on a Deus Ex forum community. I often thought it'd be fun to do something similar with the VGChartz community (although not neccessarily a Deus Ex mod).

Hopefully they support the modding community.

If people want a little extra info on the Deus Ex universe or are a fan of the original then they've also released a novel called "Icarus Effect" surrounding some of the events in Human Revolution. I believe the events in the book run parralel to some of the events in Human Revolution but is a seperate story; Adam Jensen is only briefly mentioned.

It's actually a fairly entertaining if short read.

This is a really good preview

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/04/04/deus-ex-human-revolution-preview-2/

"Human Revolution is a much tougher, harsher game than I imagined – even with augs you wouldn’t normally have. It’s visibly more futuristic than the first, the melee and cover are very different, and that first half hour really has nothing to do with Deus Ex. But none of these things stop the meat of the game from capturing the Deus Ex feel: thinking “OK, how do I want to play this?”, stumbling across interesting alternate routes, and panicking when it all goes wrong. Without that hard edge of difficulty, Human Revolution would miss the point. With it, it’s a very exciting game indeed."

@Dr.Grass  pretty good i got someone to buy Just Cause 2 and another Scott Pilgrim.

Ive been pumped for this game since ive seen the 1st trailer, im actually glad it got delayed, nothing coming out in August of import so i can get this ASAP

I'm amped for this game. I loved Invisible War and most say that was the low point in the series. So if this is better than Invisible War, then I'm in for a wonderful ride.

Thanks. Unfortunately, as much as I want to read this, I'm avoiding it as I don't want to spoil my first playthrough!

Only a few more months now!
