Are you thinking of Sorcerian? |
Maybe. I remember reading a SEGA-16 review of a Japanese only RPG whose features sounded really familiar to those described here.

Its an early crpg (one of the first) originating back on the apple 2, or the first mac, I forget exactly which, due to the bizarre translation it ended up popular in Japan, it was also the game that inspired Hori to make dragon quest
anyway it found its way to just about every home computer of the era, the 1,2, and 5 were seen on the nes and snes respectively,
I don't know which genesis games you could be thinking of, maybe the immortal or sorcerer's kingdom
I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!
NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is fantastic news!
I am a huge Sir Tech/Wizardry fan.
Wizardry has always been a difficult game that requires pretty precise strategy in every battle. From everything I have read, it is a worthy successor to the difficult games of the past.
