Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft should sell Rare to Nintendo

As for the argument of Rare's games not fitting on the Demographic of the 360, that's the whole point. A successful console appeals to all demographics. Infact I'm willing to bet that Microsoft would rather Rare make games like Viva that sell moderately well as opposed to games like Halo that sell very well.

Rare was a brilliant developer back in the early N64 days in my opinion because they had an attention to detail that was matched by no one, and they were being 'mentored' by Nintendo on what was really important; games like Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie were really large but focused games with an amazing ammount of polish.

As Rare started to take more and more control of their own fate they continued to polish their games but they lost focus; games like Jet Force Gemini, Banjo Twooie and Donkey Kong were good games but far too long.

Even before Rare was sold to Microsoft most of the key project managers had already left and formed companies like Free Radical and Zoonami; Microsoft buying Rare just cause more of the remaining talent to leave and find homes elsewhere. The Rare Microsoft owns today has very little in common with the Rare that was so important in 1998.

^ yep, most nowadays are trying to polish graphics but what they should be doing is polishing gameplay.

I am WEEzY. You can suck my Nintendo loving BALLS!

MS can keep Rare.

What I am really interested in is the properties Rare owns. Only Nintendo themselves could properly revive them

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

Some of the Rare developers of old are now part of Free Radical which was reponsible for the Timesplitters series

The only reason Sakurai allowed Snake is because he was already a clone

Arent rare making wii games now anyway? Viva Pinata is coming out on the Wii and Ds if i recall.

Eitherway, I do agree that rare's style of games would be more at home on a nintendo machine, IF they could actually make games like they used to, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Since MS are trying to appeal to the casual/younger gamers now, its unlikely they are going to give alway thier best chance at doing that.

Only Rare can properly revive IPs, not Nintendo or Microsoft. It's up to the developer, not the publisher.

Unfortunately, your just jealous that the Xbox 360 has Rare, and not the system you own. Rare has done a decent job at the IPs it's made on the X360. Kameo did fit on the X360. The vibrant colors of the game were beautiful (as were Viva Pinata), and the contrasts wouldn't be possible on inferior hardware like the Wii.

The Wii already has platformers, and Rare-esque games. Why not spread the love? The X360 greatly lacks good platformers, and that's why Rare is there. It's a good, important part of Microsoft's strategy.

And what happens if Bk3 isn't a suckfest as every one of the anti-MS people here are arguing? What if it's as good as Ratchet & Clank or Super Mario Galaxy? What then?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I was wondering if Mr. Star Control avatar was going to make a thread (one of my favorite games.)

Anwyay, you make some good points, but Microsoft just doesn't need the money, they need the games; even if those games don't do wonderfully for their system.

Rare has lost too much talent and too much support to revive anything. They're like Square, they've lost too much to make the games they used to.

I think people want to believe Rare is still capable of making magic happen because they want so badly to see the old N64 franchises they loved revived.
