Actually I can't believe you're so awkward in supporting this?! Apparently, land operation is expected and somewhat inevitable at this point. Even though there are some similarities to Yugoslavia scenario, yet Libyan rebels are obviously too weak and lack discipline to overthrow the commies all by themselves.

Second, the military operation and consequences will be good for the economy and for US position in the region. It will boost the military complex to some extent. But more importanly, Libyan oil is one of the finest quality, exploiting it alone was enough to turn the state into the most developed counry in their region! Now imagine how much more western oil companies will get access or even control over those resources, not just russians or chineese, and do your math! And it's fair trade, as you give freedom to libyan people after all. Such kind of legitimacy will help US there in the long term.

As for the split you mentioned, it's rather natural at this point. After all those long years of red propaganda, there are certainly lots of brainwashed people who will oppose any strengthening of their own country no matter what. Even mrstickball turned commie with all the recent threads from him. But you always appeared more than reasonable, what's the matter with you now?

Politics and military dont represent the nation. Even thoug American foregin politics set the new bar for hypocrasy, America still cares the most for thier citizens and respect them over anything  (in most cases )

Most people in this country don't give a rats ass about each other. Put us in the same situation as Japan right now and you would see looting/stealing and us killing each other.

I believe Gaddafi is going to stay in power. From what I have garnered from NPR, DemocracyNow!, and other news sources Gaddafi has 6 billion in gold reserves to pay his mercenary army, a mercenary army who awaits nothing but death by horrible means if he falls, children who have no money abroad due to his assets being seized, and the patience to wait the no-fly zone out.

Whoever the rebels are, I believe they do not have the organization, tactical military minds, nor arms to win this without boots on the ground sanctioned by the UN.

Gaddafi will stay in power because France does not have the balls to put troops on the ground, Germany has already shown it has been castrated, and the UK like the USA has too much public debt to involve itself in another war after Iraq and Afghanistan.
