Forums - Nintendo - Is Pokémon Black/White The Highlight Of All Pokémon?

I am mesmerised by the fact that GameFreak have pulled off such an esquisite game, everything about it is fantastic and this is coming from someone who had doubts. Do you think Black/White is the best in the series or can it not beat the likes of the originals in your opinion. It deserves it's sales as well, it will no doubt surpass the Ruby/Sapphire and Diamond/Pearl sales.

It's a truly fantastic game. In fact, it makes me wonder why the hell this wasn't what Diamond and Pearl were...why couldn't they have multiple items registered to Y, or have always-moving sprites, or have proper 3D overworld sections, in D/P, if it's the same system? Even the little things like inifinite TM use and in-pokecentre marts make SO much sense that it seems bizarre it took until the 5th gen to happen.

Even the pokemon stylings seem fresh and inventive again. Many D/P pokemon seemed useless or pointless, or unexciting, but these are creative, with cool types.

I'm also really impressed they managed to take it somewhere in terms of legendaries. I really thought after Space/Time in D/P that they'd have nothing else to explore. Then they do Truth/Ideals.

My only concern? What the hell do they do 6th gen to top it? I know it'll have 3DS visuals, but the game is ridiculously perfected now.

EDIT: Also, I was a little underwhelmed by Unova as a region. I loved the bridge, and Castelia, and a lot of it had some big wow moments. And of course the 3D use is excellent. But I thought the routes and caves were mostly small and straightforward, and many of the towns were small and samey. Compare it to R/S's towns, which ranged from treehouses in palm tree forests to houses on floating logs in the see and these towns, Castelia aside, are very bland. My only complaint - and the storyline and campaign is so fun and action packed that you don't really notice (I'm at 57 hours now, which is when you start to notice things like this!).

Base the next game on London I pressume.

Well sometimes to build the series future hype, at least one instalment has to bomb. All the 3rd Gen didnt exactly 'bomb', many fans werent too happy with it, but this lead to the 4th Gen which was received better and now the 5th Gen. So maybe the 6th Gen will be an inevitable disappointment.

The new scaling EXP system has me downed, as i just spent the better part of an hour getting three Pokemon up a total of four levels between them

Though i can't wait for infinite use TMs, so idk. What really makes me like Pokemon games is the gym leaders, and they already impressed with the first, where they hedged against your starter to force you to get over that problem immediately.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

THis game has pretty much has the best of everything like

best villains, best story, best use of gym leaders and best use of the elite 4 and the presentation is perfect for a 2-D game.

THe only problem is content. The pokemon I swear feel like they have a counterpart,(which are better) Not only that but it feels very limited before you go to the elite 4. You only have like 160 something pokemon to choose from but alot are too weak or don't look to cool or feel like they shouldn't even be in a pokemon game. Ether way I was able to find alot of good pokemon it just felt limited and also whoever decided that some pokemon should evolve  at high levels should be shot

According to you guys, this game should be best game of the year that didn't get any awards.

It'll get awards, it will just be relegated down to 'best handheld game', or if it's lucky it will get the 'best RPG'.  But, really if this is the best game of 2011, I'll be very happy as Black/White has set the bar very high indeed.

IMO the best Pokemon game and among the greatest RPGs ever produced.

@Thread title:

It seems like the best Pokemon game to date - I'm SOOOOOOOO mad that I don't have it yet!! My DS isn't working >:(

I might have to wait for 3DS - the thing is I wanted to wait for a better battery version - I'm so torn :(

As far as the game goes, it is the best in terms of gameplay and utilization of pre-existing concepts. A good game overall. If I had to nit-pick, I'd say my problem is the pokemon themselves, some are original and feel like they were developed along with other original ones. Others seem like a carbon copy counterpart to the original red/blue rule. The ones that were originals, among them were a couple of lame ones...two were just garbage- literally garbage.

I'm still holding out for my fighting/flying tiger pokemon (doduo and dotrio don't have much wingspan).

Immune to ground and ghost if I'm not mistaken, normal damage from rocks, ice, flying.  resistant to bug, fighting, and grass.

with above average stats, that's a heavy hitter.

Or a pure flying type for that matter. Having fighting types hit for neutral damage sucks.
