Forums - Sony - "Supercharged" PlayStation 3 Consoles Are Not Modified

lol are there really people who though we would sell modded consoles?  We would be sued sooooo fast.

Also for the record the "Referbished consoles" Sony will make money on so don't feel bad about buying it if your trying to get sales for Sony.  Its only the "pre-owned" systems that is fully Gamestop money.

"Referb" consoles are actually referbished by the console manufacture themselves (Microsoft, Sony) and include a 1 year warranty through the manufacturer whereas the "pre-owned" systems is fully handled by Gamestop and comes with a warranty through us.

"Though Sony may be on high alert because of recent hacks made on their PlayStation 3 system, I don’t think Sony are at all concerned with the “Supercharged” consoles that Gamestop are selling. Why? Well, first and foremost, Gamestop aren’t breaking any rules. Secondly, these consoles are not modified, they are refurbished.

If anyone actually bothered to check the specifics of the “Supercharged” PlayStation 3 consoles they would have noticed that the only two things that are different is hard-drive and the skin. The rest are just components that you would otherwise have to spend a little extra to get. This is more of a special package deal rather than a special modified console sale. And the last time I checked removing or replacing the hard-drive wasn’t in breach of the warranty. Nicraevolution should do some fact checking before making wild accusations like this.

So, before you jump the gun and accuse Gamestop of selling hacked or modified consoles please do some reading. As long as Sony get the money from the PlayStation 3 console sales I really don’t think there is an issue."

Why the author is so mad ?

anyways it does have an HDD right? , because without an HDD , you can't install games.

It has a 500gb hard drive. The author is mad because there was another article that claimed that Gamestop was selling hacked ps3's, when actually it was just refurbs.

I don't get it at all. Why is it called 'supercharged'?

And someone please tell me how much this costs.

Interesting.

It is called supercharged because it comes with a few accessories, a new skin, and an upgraded hard drive(500gb)

Mkay. And the price?

The term 'supercharged' gives the impression that it's bein overclocked or something. lol. Of course that won't benefit a console even if it is possible.

$400

The only reason why its a good deal is because of the 500gb hard drive. Everything else is super cheap, and the ps3 already comes with a 1 year warranty from Sony, so that is useless.

I can buy new PS3 with 1tb laptop drive for 400$:

I remember reading up on this "special" the other day.  Cheap recharging station, cheap HDMI cable, cheap remote controller, and cheap USB Hub.  No thanks.  Oh and since this is a Gamestop refurbished PS3, SONY is not getting a red cent from this sale.

"As long as Sony get the money from the PlayStation 3 console sales I really don’t think there is an issue."

Yeah, right.

Someone had to buy the original system...

But not from this "deal."  And I'm not knocking buying a used system.  I'm just commenting on the article.

Not sure if this was covered yet or not, but these are factory refurbished systems they get from Sony. So they pay a reduced price for the refurbished ones directly to Sony and if it's anything like the Xbox 360 refurbs GameStop sells, they usually still come with a 1 year warranty from MS/Sony.

So yes, Sony still gets the money from these.
