Forums - Sony - "Supercharged" PlayStation 3 Consoles Are Not Modified

"Though Sony may be on high alert because of recent hacks made on their PlayStation 3 system, I don’t think Sony are at all concerned with the “Supercharged” consoles that Gamestop are selling. Why? Well, first and foremost, Gamestop aren’t breaking any rules. Secondly, these consoles are not modified, they are refurbished.

If anyone actually bothered to check the specifics of the “Supercharged” PlayStation 3 consoles they would have noticed that the only two things that are different is hard-drive and the skin. The rest are just components that you would otherwise have to spend a little extra to get. This is more of a special package deal rather than a special modified console sale. And the last time I checked removing or replacing the hard-drive wasn’t in breach of the warranty. Nicraevolution should do some fact checking before making wild accusations like this.

So, before you jump the gun and accuse Gamestop of selling hacked or modified consoles please do some reading. As long as Sony get the money from the PlayStation 3 console sales I really don’t think there is an issue."

I remember reading up on this "special" the other day.  Cheap recharging station, cheap HDMI cable, cheap remote controller, and cheap USB Hub.  No thanks.  Oh and since this is a Gamestop refurbished PS3, SONY is not getting a red cent from this sale.

Yeah, right.

But not from this "deal."  And I'm not knocking buying a used system.  I'm just commenting on the article.

I don't get it at all. Why is it called 'supercharged'?

And someone please tell me how much this costs.

Interesting.

It looks ugly. :/

Need something off Play-Asia? http://www.play-asia.com/

I don't see what's the problem with selling used systems or how it negatively affects Sony in any significant way, as ultimately it adds to the user base of the PS3. Which means more people are buying software, and that's where most money is made I assume.

Its different to the used game market, as the developers and publishers lose money if some1 buys a used game....that money lost is almost never recuperated. Or i should rather say a potential sale is lost. The point is theres no significant recuperation where as in used hardware sales there is.

Anyways i think thats a bit off topic

:D

It is called supercharged because it comes with a few accessories, a new skin, and an upgraded hard drive(500gb)

Mkay. And the price?

The term 'supercharged' gives the impression that it's bein overclocked or something. lol. Of course that won't benefit a console even if it is possible.

that's probably why they gave it that name, it's all marketing.

the only part i'm confused on is the tone of this article...is this a response article cause it sounds like it?  did someone accuse gamestop of doing something illegal cause the facts as presented here clearly are not illegal.  really its not different then when BB or whatever bundle a few accessories with your purchase other than the ps3 is refurbished.
