Where is the option for LDS/ mormonism. You should know to include that oh well ill just go with christianity as it is the closest thing to it.

In the past, I thought you guys were called the LSD Church. I used to wonder of there was any connection to the drug. Then I found out it's LDS (Letter Day Saints). That made more sense.

Lol loads of people think that but it isnt.

I know a few LDS. They are good people. Only thing that bothers me is that vegetarianism is part of the philosophy but many just ignore it.

As far as i know it isnt. there is a scripture which goes something like this

Man may rear animals and plants for his needs but man cannot use them for his wants.

I think that means that you can eat animals and plants for what you need (remember meat is part of a healthy diet) but i will look this up and if it turns out i should be vegetarian i actually will.

Also there are 2 types of LDS so it may be that one says you should be a veggie and the other says its ok to eat meat.

I will be most impressed if you stick to your word

EDIT: http://www.lightplanet.com/mormons/daily/health/meat.htm

I can tell you that the reason vegetarianism isn't being preached is because much less people would be interested to join. People are just too addicted to meat (check sniding comments that will no doubt follow).

I have to tell you; I read the book of Mormon. Furthermore, I studied your philosophy a little bit deeper and it sure has an interesting conclusion! I think most people would be very surprised if they found out what the fundamentals of your universe is!

Anyways, I respect your religion, so forgive my previous post

dont worry man im cool with your previous post. oh you know ferrari 7861 or somet like that? he is my friend and ill ask him to tell you if i eat meat. so im gonna have to battle with my meat craving from now on nom nom nom. btw are you a vegitarian?

I suggest that if you are seious about it then you shouldn't just stop eating meat. Rather see why so many people don't do it.

Yes, I've been for almost 6 years. I only know 1 other white guy in South Africa that's vegetarian, and he became because of me hehe.

I'm definitely not on a crusade. All I want to do is smoke pot and play drum, but I guarantee that if the whole world (this will never happen) was vegetarian then it would be much closer to paradise than it is now.

THOREAU
I have no doubt that it is a part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual improvement, to leave off eating animals.

GHANDHI
He was a vegetarian. His parents, being devout Hindus, never gave him meat, fish, or eggs.
"I do feel that spiritual progress does demand at some stage that we should cease to kill our fellow creatures for the satisfaction of our bodily wants." -

PYTHAGORAS
"Oh, my fellow men, do not defile your bodies with sinful foods. We have corn, we have apples bending down the branches with their weight, and grapes swelling on the vines. There are sweet-flavored herbs, and vegetables which can be cooked and softened over the fire, nor are you denied milk or thyme-scented honey. The earth affords a lavish supply of riches, of innocent foods, and offers you banquets that involve no bloodshed or slaughter: only beasts satisfy their hunger with flesh, and not even all of those, because horses, cattle, and sheep live on grass." The biographer Diogenes tells us that Pythagoras ate bread and honey in the morning and raw vegetables at night. He would also pay fisherman to throw their catch back into the sea.

LEONARDI DA VINCI
"He who does not value life does not deserve it." He considered the bodies of meat-eaters to be "burial places," graveyards for the animals they eat. His notebooks are full of passages that show his compassion for living creatures. He lamented, "Endless numbers of these animals shall have their little children taken from them, ripped open, and barbarously slaughtered."
"I have learned from an early age to abjure the use of meat, and the time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men."

JEAN JACQUES ROUSSEAU He maintained that meat-eating animals are generally more cruel and violent than herbivores. Therefore a vegetarian diet would produce a more compassionate person. He even advised that butchers not be allowed to testify in court or sit on juries.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
He became a vegetarian at the age of sixteen. Franklin said "greater progress, from that greater clearness of head and quicker apprehension." In his autobiographical writings, he called flesh-eating "unprovoked murder."

THOMAS EDISON
"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages."

Well, regarding the fish thing...

I personally have no problem with people eating fish. Its much less cruel than killing cows for example (just watch some videos). I've even heard fish being described as swimming vegetables hehe. The fact is they don't suffer nearly as much as land animals when slaughtered, and since my main reason for not eating animals is ahimsa (sanskrit for nonviolence) its definitely better.

Other reasons why meat industry is bad:

http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-food/meat-and-environment.aspx

We are effectively wasting vast quantities of water, soil and plant based foods in order to support a meat eating diet.

In addition to that:

''According to Environmental Defense, if every American skipped one meal of chicken per week and substituted vegetarian foods instead, the carbon dioxide savings would be the same as taking more than half a million cars off U.S. roads.''

Now imagine if no-one ate any chicken!

There are studies showing (believe it or not) that the meat industry is the nr1 contributor to greenhouse gasses:

http://www.encognitive.com/node/2186

etc

etc

etc

So if you do somehow find this all convincing (especially coupled with your faith), then I would suggest the following:

-Stop eating Red meat. Red meat is bad mkay!  :P

-Be vegetarian one day per week

It's much more important to do something that's sustainable than to pasionately go all out for something.

For me its easier than for most since I stayed in India for a while and learnt to cook there from a master cook. I quite enjoy inviting friends over and impressing them with a special dinner.

So I don't think you should worry about tuna. Besides, Rastas eat fish too :D

dont worry man im cool with your previous post. oh you know ferrari 7861 or somet like that? he is my friend and ill ask him to tell you if i eat meat. so im gonna have to battle with my meat craving from now on nom nom nom. btw are you a vegitarian?

Kool. my biggest problem i think will be tuna i love tuna!

I quite enjoy enviting friends over and impressing them with a special dinner.

So I don't think you should worry about tuna. Besides, Rastas eat fish too :D

I'll tell you if chris.m95 stops eating meat or not

thnx ferrari. really 500k cars wow! dude thats quite immense. i dont eat tuna often anyways but i just get to a point every 3 or 4 days when i just need it you know what i mean. :P

Christianity. I'm going to leave it at that and not get into a discussion over beliefs. This site is way to dominated by atheists to have a decent religious topic.

We are building a Creationist theme park in Kentucky.  Maybe you could meet some people there who share your beliefs, while you ride the Jonah Fish Submarine or Noah's Log Flume.

Serioulsy though, I grew up in a very religious family with preacher grandparents, so I know a lot about religion.  Thats why I'm an atheist.

You mean you know a lot about western religion.

So? Where are you getting at?
