Forums - General - Teen could be jailed for 2 years for killing pet hamster

Killing pets is wrong, and in my opinion killing animals for anything other than food or for conservation purposes is wrong.  However, where do we draw the line here?  What if someone killed a pet pig and made bacon out of it?

Never realized she was 19, in that case I can understand why the family got authorities involved not much the parent's could do to punish the girl. I hope she gets a nice fine, possibly anger managment and maybe alittle community service to pay back society for the cost of bringing her to court.

I doubt she'll see prison time and don't believe she should. But a ninteen year old needs to take responsability for her actions.

Depends how they killed the pig. If they choked it to death it's cruelty. If they did it humanely then it's fine.

The crazy woman in Fatal Attraction boiled a guy's rabbit alive to get back at him for dumping her. This girl chocked a hamster to get back at her brother. Cruelty to small animls is a sign of psychological problems.

And killing an animal in this way is a pretty big deal for some people.

Yes but this was an act in anger and frustration. Impulse driven act, not true cruelty.

I've hit a girlfriend and my brother in anger and I'm not a psychopath as far as I know (well maybe a little bit).

Two years seems harsh. Its just a friggin hamster. Perhaps forcing her to pay fines and possibly take some anger management classes would be better for society. We don't need another person in prison for a friggin hamster.

Why are people talking about how long it'll take to choke a hamster ;_;,

I find it amazing that there was an autopsy and everything, a crime but not one deserving 2 years in prison, but choking a hamster the lobbing it out the window.. That's anger management right there.

Superior creatures kill other things all the time! That's nature. I mean cat kills mouse, dog kills cat, and some people eat dog.

If a cat doesn't get prision time for killing a mouse than neither should a human. Case closed!

There's a huge difference between killing an animal out of necessity (to obtain food, to defend yourself, to prevent an infestation) and killing animals for fun.

Also, I don't think that dogs are necessarily superior to cats on the evolution scale.
