Forums - Microsoft - Report: Code Exploit Cost Microsoft $1.2 Million

VG247

A website created this week allowed visitors to generate Microsoft voucher codes, which could then be redeemed for 1600 MS Points and individual Marketplace items.

Refreshing the site continually produced codes, the vast majority of which turned out to be valid.

Clever clogs quickly discovered ways to automate the code retrieval process, rapidly scoring tens of thousands of MS Points and eventually bringing the site to its knees with the demand.

Microsoft shut the exploit down within hours, but Save & Quit reports the astounding figure of $1.2 million in lost codes.

Oh snap! I can never seem to be douchebaggy enough to jump on these sort of opportunities, a) I either miss them b) I'll get caught.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Glad a site reported this and didn't hop on the popular "It's the pirates who did it!" band wagon, like these guys.

"Pirate" is becoming such a loosely used term now. It is getting ridiculous.

Well it should be a permanent ban since its a pretty big violation against Xbox Live.  Problem is how would they know who did it and who didnt.   Needless to say the punishment should be strict

it's nothing new... you could get 150 dollars as iTunes credit for 25 dollar a few years back.. >_>

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

doesnt really seem that big of a problem tbh.
