Yes, it will download system updates but you have to still install the system update by agreeing to the terms. And yes all game patches for 'recent games' you played will update for whenever time you set auto download to turn on your PS3.

I love the PSN Plus just not have time to play all the stuff.

Now with the internet save option the Plus became most to have for all PSN users.
